I am nearly in tears typing this..... Without wanting to deflect anything away from this incident...I've been having a rant myself about other stupid items in the news. I see that two convicted paedophiles are on the loose after escaping from a bail hostel, where they were staying after being released from prison. Police are saying that they pose a 'real threat to the public, especially children'... why on earth were they released in the first place???!!! Guess where they were last seen together. Sheffield Station. Like you Clare, I am wondering what persuaded the powers that be that these two were suitable for release from prison? I work in a school and so many parents blame the teachers because their child is badly behaved, but we only see them for a total of 6 hours a day, 5 days a week - not our fault if they are badly behaved. If they leave their childrne to behave and roam like aminals, then they will act like them. Pressure on prison pads im afraid. Most of it is based on risk analysis - its a better/more calculated risk to send out 2 paedophiles to a bail hostel than it is to let a convicted murderer step down into a low secure/open prison. Something somewhere along the line has to give as there are not enough prison pads to house all the offenders for the full term of their sentences.
