PixieDust
Whilst I has watching the girls with the dog this afternoon, the Bluebell and the Sussex started s"Ooops, word censored!"ing at the sand and eventually the Bluebell made a place to squat in. The Sussex told her off with a peck, almost like she was saying "get out I am scratching here." Her comb is not big or red but was she squatting or just having a sit down? chuckmum6
No, it doesn't sound like squatting to me. When hens squat, they push their wings back and to the side, it is to allow a cock to mate with them. It is more of a crouch rather than a sit. Mine squat for me when they are in lay, make of it what you will , they are a right nuisance when they do it as they nearly trip me up! gavclojak
sounds like she wanted to have a dust bath yes it does to me too, mine tend to be having a lovely time dusting and another hen often pops over and gives them a quick peck, as if to say "my go"
PixieDust
Ok thank you. I thought it probably wasn't. I am going to create their dust bath tomorrow with some soil and DE.

Luvachicken
Mine argue over the best spot for dust bathing in When they do squat the kind of waddle their feet and quiver too - or maybe that's just mine
Chickabee
Mine are he same luvachicken, some of them refuse to squat though, even if they are in lay
Cat tails
I still think squatting is such a strange thing to do! It still makes me smile. I have one chicken who will squat and not move untill I have stroked her back...

PixieDust
Thank you Sparkysmum. I tried to research as much as I could to try to be prepared lol Oh they all sound so sweet with their squatting. Hope at least one of mine does it. If it'll be anyone I think it may be the Columbine.
