Just been watching this footage of Adam Lambert fronting Queen, and I approve.... he has the flamboyance and vocal gymnastics/range to carry it off, and while Brian May has lost his trademark clogs I like Adam's cuban heels, which remind me of Prince in his hey day.

 

 

Now need to see them live!

Roger and Brian are getting on,Queen may not tour again which is why I am going.I just love the music and Adam Lambert is a real showman I think Freddie would approve.

If it's the same one I just didn't get him He certainly has the vocal gymnastics to get through the songs but it sounded more musical theater to me. I'd rather a lesser singer with more charisma. He just didn't do it for me.

I only saw a snippet of him with the band and I have to say, it didn't do it for me either . There's only one Freddie Mercury .

Granted that he's not the great showman that Freddie was, but I think it's important not to compare him, but to enjoy the experience for what it is. I think that most of the important elements of Queen were still there, but with a new twist; I have no doubt that he will grow into this role as well.

You're right, I know. I've always struggled listening to covers of other performers' songs - all I can hear is how it doesn't sound like the original! Can't seem to help it .

Just logged in to the Forum after a weekend off, saw the title of this thread and thought I'd missed the toppling of the monarchy Its an on going joke with everyone I know that I can be somewhat unaware of global happenings but this would have really taken the biscuit!!

I love Queen, saw them live at Knebworth before Freddie's demise.

 

I watched Adam Lambert with Queen on New Year's Eve.. but I didn't think his voice was powerful enough to carry the songs. He looked like he could slot in - pretty enough to look at, costumes up well, cheeky tats and nail varnish, cuban heels; I was really hopeful that he could deliver the songs, but (to me) his voice just got a bit lost. Maybe the sound set up wasn't right for him.

 

After Freddie's death, Queen had a concert with different people fronting different songs. The only one who had a voice powerful enough to do the song justice was - to my absolute surprise - was George Michael.

Still, I guess Adam Lambert is better than no Queen.

Interesting that the George Michael and Queen combo works; I wouldn't have thought that his vocal range was wide enough (most of the songs were written for Freddie) and it isn't, but it still meshes well.

The concert at Nottingham last night was amazing.Brian did a very moving solo spot.He said it was a very special night as there was a special lady in the audience, Freddie's Mama.He then sang These Are The Days Of Your Life with pictures of Freddie on the screen,it was very emotional . In my opinion Adam was excellent and it's the best concert I have been to.

Adam Lambert was runner up on American Idol a few years ago and according to Brian and Roger is one of the few that has as good a vocal range as Freddie.He also is an amazing performer.Actually Prev post should have been Love of my life For those interested can be seen on you tube. I think I prefer him fronting Queen.He has changed facially in the last three years.He looks a lot leaner.

He certainly knows how to work his look, and a crowd; important as Queen is known for it's stage presence and performance.
