Purplemaniacs
Ah what a lovely day you have had. I remember going to visit our black lab when she was a similar age. I have a lovely photo of DS holding her, he was 13 then . Poppy is now 10 years old and a lovely dog. I look forward to seeing photos when you get him. Lavenders_Blue
How exciting! Make sure you post some gorgeous puppy photos when he arrives. I agree that yellow labs are becoming far less common - round here I see mainly black labs with just a few yellow and some chocolate. kinsk
How exciting! And how long are the next few weeks going to seem! Can't wait to see pics. Grandmashazzie
Name,I am thinking of George can't really say why, just seems to suit a chunky lab.Was maybe also considering Freddie, after my recent Queen fix but think I have been out voted on that.I was also reminiscing with my daughter how when I was young dogs tended to be called Rex,Prince,Lucky and Rover.Thought I might go retro with Rex

Grandmashazzie
Oh DM the breeder had what I later described to my husband as a ginger looking lab and said it must be a mongrel I wonder was it fox red.I have had labs for thirty odd years and thought there was only 3 colours. This forum is great for expanding your knowledge. Grandmashazzie
Oh wise ones.I found this breeder through kennel club website and as said went to see puppy on Sat.He obviously keeps his dogs outside as they all had kennels with their names on and he had about 5 dogs in a large field. He had just moved puppies to an outside kennel to harden them .It was very clean and puppies were adorable. He said he let them go at 8 weeks but now I am wondering about their lack of socialisation. My dog will be an inside dog and will need to get used to children,Hoover etc. Will that be okay if left to 8 weeks or should I see if I can pick up sooner? The Dogmother
The pup is best left with its mum until 8 weeks, just to make sure it's weaned and has all the mum comforts it can. When you get it home, just introduce it gradually to the house, keeping to a small are at first (easily cleaned!) and reward with fuss when it meets a new experience and reacts positively. You can take him out before his inoculations in a large back or front-mounted backpack. It is normal for gun dogs to be kennelled outside. Here's my friend's fox red girl - big grin She's a year old now and will be trained to take over when one of her other gun dogs retires later this year. The Dogmother
Yep, all 3 of her labs are, as are my hounds. we were out with them yesterday and the youngster dearly wanted to race around like mad with my two, but she's still growing, so is on limited amounts of hard exercise, she does walk beautifully to heel though and retrieves well. kinsk
I love puppy tummies! We got our rottie at 8 weeks and they had been moved to an outdoor kennel, he was absolutely fine coming into a home environment. I wouldn't choose to take a pup any earlier than 8 weeks. The Dogmother
That fox red lab was an adorable pup; she had Weetabix scented ears and a soft pink tummy
Purplemaniacs
We had Poppy at 8 weeks and Millie a few days before 8 weeks as we were the first to pick from the litter and that was a weekend so DS could help us choose. Both mine were indoor pups but as others have said keep them in a smallish area and gradually introduce them to things. Millie hates the hoover and hides Chrissie
