Janepie33
The British Hen Welfare Trust were having a rescue day in Guildford today Gavclojak. I phoned them in the week and reserved 4 girls. Spent yesterday spring cleaning the Cube and run awaiting their arrival. I was absolutely amazed that they just put themselves to bed with no help from me at all! gavclojak
Ah congratulations on taking on those lucky ex cage fighters! The reason I ask is we (BHWT) did a rehoming last Sunday and a majority of the girls beaks were like that, I have never seen it before, yes the odd then or two but not the overwhelming majority! I will bet my bottom dollar they came from a colony unit in Essex???
Janepie33
How strange. I wonder how they ended up like that poor things. I didn't find out where exactly they came from, but the lady said that they were ex barn hens. No better off than battery if the pictures I've seen are anything to go by! Very excited to find 2 eggs this morning. In the nesting box!!
gavclojak
Ah if they were ex-barn then they didn't come from where I was thinking but what a coincidence. The egg find is magical isn't it
Valkyrie
Hello Kermit! A character right from the start. Lots of fun with them coming up.
Janepie33
Trying to teach them to use the glug by poking it with a stick to make the water come out. They keep pecking a bolt on the side of the ladder. I think they think water will come out!
Luvachicken
What a lovely photo of the 4 of them I'm especially liking Kermit, are you going to have a Miss Piggy too ? When I have a bigger garden I would love to rescue some girls.
redsunset
What a beautiful pic of the four girls! They are just lovely! You will have hours of fun, and never mind the wonky beaks! I bought same type of chook once cos she had wonky toes! Love her! She had a prolapse some months ago, fixed it and still lays a slightly wonky egg but doing great
