So so cross with myself..........

Jane...so sorry to hear this but do think of the really lovely luxury life that your girls have had - far better, I am sure, than many other animals so try and focus on that. As someone else has also wisely pointed out, its not something that one does twice so hopefully you'll soon have some more feathered friends?!

Thanks for your support everyone. Haven't been in the garden since Thursday. I can still see some little white feathers blowing in the wind. :( We have had fox attacks before and been very lucky, but never lost the whole lot.

Plan to get another little flock when the weather gets a bit warmer. :)

Aw, lovely! So pleased you are going for rescue hens (and I know one person on this forum who will be delighted) and they are available in your area. :) Delighted you are getting more chooks and the fox hasn't put you off. Devastating to lose your girls but am glad you are thinking of more :)

I collected four rescue girls on sunday; I can't tell you how adorable they are! I call them "the babies" even though they are around 18 months old! I absolutely love them and I'm sure you will love yours too! Tonight they all took themselves up to bed for the first time together and I felt so proud of them :D

Ah bless them! It's amazing that after everything they have been through, and I can tell you first hand it wasn't pleasant, that they become real chickens so quickly. I am beyond greatful to anyone who considers taking on these lovely lucky girls as all you guys probably know now....
