Chicken shack
I've shut the bedroom door when I've cleaned them out and forgot to open it. I've came out in the morning to find them in the run. luclely it wasn't frosty. Mine FR most days and when I went out last week to let them out one came running up to me in the garden! I always do a head count at night to make sure they are all away safe, I must have counted one twice. I haven't a clue where she spent the night. Valkyrie
Once I forgot to close the lid on the cube and it was just a hand's width open after I cleaned it. Must have got sidetracked. We all do things because we are multi taskers and sometimes when there is just so much to multi task we already moved on to the next thing without completing the last thing! Janepie33
Sadly not ok. Lost all 4 girls. We have so many foxes nearby. They must have thought it was Christmas.

mullethunter
Oh no Jane that's awful. I think lots of us have done things like that, just sometimes we get away with it. You must be feeling terrible, but get back on the horse - you'll never do it again
Groovychook
Oh I'm so sorry Don't beat yourself up- mistakes are easily made. Sending hugs to you and hope you will feel able to start again sometime soon. xx
Luvachicken
That is very sad Janepie33. I'm sorry it happened to you and your girls. We all make mistakes and we can all learn from them. I once left the egg port door open all night but was very lucky. Even now I'm paranoid about that door. Sending hugs xxx

PixieDust
I have been feeling very cross with myself too. Last night I left the pop hole open on the coop and left the food and water in the run. I was late out to them this morning and had the shock of my life to see them wandering around the run. Luckily the WIR was locked so nothing could get in of out. Poor little mites must have been very cold last night. So sorry to hear of your loss.
Ain't Nobody Here
What a shame, I'm so sorry . Don't blame yourself, it could happen to any of us.
Cat tails
Oh no! I can only imagine how you must feel! Like others have said, don't hold it against yourself. A fox can hit at any time.
Cheshire Hen
I'm so sorry for your misfortune. I did something similar once, and was just very lucky the raccoons didn't come around that night. Best wishes getting a new little flock in place again.
Beantree
I made a similar mistake and lost two hens as a result. Much more careful now, going back to the enclosure to check them all after they are locked up. Easy to leave things open and feeders down when your mind is on other things. merlina
As others have said, most of us have done it at some time or other. I certainly have. You were very unlucky for that to happen. /hugs

Minnie&Moose
Very sorry to hear this. We lost a much loved hen last year to a fox because I forgot to clip her wing after she'd moulted (she obviously hopped over the electric fence one day and couldn't get back in time) - I still blame myself so I know how you feel.
