Eggshell
Sorry - another post about my chicken who's laying soft shells at the moment. I let the chickens all out in the garden yesterday afternoon - everything normal. Then at one point I noticed this chicken flicking her head and using her foot as if she'd got something caught in her beak, keeping her head twisted one way so that she could look out of her right eye. On inspection I found she had a bit of foam at the front of her left eye. I went indoors to try to phone a chicken-keeping friend about it; when I came out, the foam was gone and she was back to normal. It can only have lasted about three minutes altogether. Looking on the forum, mycoplasma is what keeps coming up for foamy eyes, but would the symptoms last longer than this? Could it just be her eye's response to getting some grit or something in it? Eye and behaviour both normal again today. She did flick her head a couple of times when she was out in the garden this morning, but I know I wouldn't have thought that was odd if I weren't looking out for problems. Should I just keep an eye on her?
jimnpaula
It sounds to me like she had something in her eye, if everything seems normal now then just monitor the situation.
