Greetings from Corfu!

Recommended Posts

Hi on my last days hols after a week in sweltering Corfu. Flying back to Luton tonight. We've had a mixed bag of weather temps of 31+ and thunder storms - very electrical lightening and mosquitos by the score. I have been bitten to death and got cellulitis on my arm - luckliy you can by antibiotics over the counter - only 4 Euro!!

We have noticed the place is not heaving with tourists and the people are friendly and very hard working. I do feel for them with their economy and thought after the dreadful happenings in Tunisia - Greece would be a good place to go. I would say if you bring plenty of Euros the islands seem somewhat immune to what is going on compared to mainland Greece. So anyone looking for late hols please consider Greek Islands - Corfu is very tropical and lush, just bring lots of insect repellant.\

Only here for a week so did one trip with the lads (19 and 14) to Aqualand. Whilst waiting for the coach to take us i managed to knock a notice board on my head and ended up with a lump and cut. The ice which OH got off a nearby bar seemed to do the trick - I think I will have a bruise to die for and have a headache. We continued on our trip with me pressing the melting ice to my poor head. Everyone on the coach kept asking me if I was ok as I dripped all over the seat. Kids got their trip. I dont think ES will holiday with us again as too old.

Apologies for any errors on a Greek/English keyboard.

Have missed the girlies and havent seen any hens just a few cats and dogs and one gorgeous kitten. No donkeys either.

Hope you are all well and see you soon in good old UK. Byeeeeee

We love the Greek Islands, & are travelling there again in a couple of weeks.

I had hoped that the situation was somewhat diluted on the islands, as we want to give Greece our support in this small way. So many happy memories from so many diverse & gorgeous islands....it's Skiathos this time for us, choosen purely because Mama Mia was filmed there!

Another Greece fan here,i loved Corfu especially Acharavi and paleokastritsa. Corfu town is just lovely for pottering around too. We also went to the water park and I banged my head on one of the flumes, it wasn't pretty!!

I have been to mexico last year and am off again next April with OH and my 3 kids and their three partners so 8 of us total....I cannot wait!

Hello! I love hearing from people on this forum when they're on their hols. There's something wonderful about that - you're having a cool time but still thinking about your on-line chicken keeping buddies.

I used to live in Cyprus when I was tiny but apart from that I've never been to anywhere Mediterranean. My northern European skin does not like hot. Good Luck with rest of hols and journey home.

Well back in UK and loving the fact I have lots of veggies to pick. Girls ok, cats somewhat traumatised from cattery but they will settle.

I would love to go to Mamma Mia island and look forward to hearing about it Cinammon- if its humid and mossie fied I will be givng it a miss  head much better thanks and bites itchy but going crimson.

I am glad it was only a week - the hotel was 3* and basic but very clean - food a bit sameish and the prices over hyped. We met a lot of "Shirley Valentines" and a lot of their half n half offspring - mainly the result of Greek dads and English mums - they make lovely looking offspring. We met mainly girls and ES's eyes were on stalks as they were stunning. I said if things pick up for Greece get a summer job and do a Cyril Valentine.

The plane was delayed again - got back at 1.30 am this morning. Shattered.

All I will say is take lots of Euros - pay for bigger things by card if you can and shop around for food etc. Oh and try the Frappes (iced coffee) I had 3 after my head knock for shock - lovely.
