Eggshell
I've decided to avoid diatomaceaous earth because of the silica issues, but am currently using Bio Dri powder as disinfectant. A blurb on one website seemed to suggest it has silica ingredients too. Does anyone know what it does contain and whether there are any similar health considerations around Bio Dri? I chose it over Stalosan because it claims to be approved in organic farming - but it does seem difficult to find a completely safe/environmentally-friendly solution, short of having dozens of acres of pasture... sjp
I've copied this from the Biodri safety data sheet from herehttp://www.chicken-house.co.uk/SDS%20BioDri.doc COMPOSITIONAL INFORMATION. Blend of natural minerals, polysaccharide and mineral and essential oils the tub I've got hasn't got anything about ingredients on it
Eggshell
Yes, the data sheet is what I was looking at. The reactivity data suggests to me that there's some sort of silica ingredient in there.
Cat tails
Reading the data sheet, it is very clear on the safety measures you need to take which is none. The element silicon is the main element in sand, a very common element to find in different substances.
chooksRCute
I had a bit of a flip over all the chemicals I was using to keep my chooks clean & safe & the effects on composting/ food chain. After a lot of research the only product I found that was Defra approved and was advertised as environmental & ecologically safe was Bolshaw's. I've ordered some but yet to use as I'm using up the Bio dri & Stalosan I had first - they're all so damn expensive!
jasperaliceuk
Does anyone find that their chickens eat the Bio Dry? No ill effects but whatever its sprinkled on they just all munch on it. Sue
