Millie-Annie
I picked up my ex-batts today. I got them from an animal sanctuary, but they seem to have come with problems. They feather peck, well they peck the newly emerging feathers. They make each other bleed and I am at a loss. I have sprayed them with anti-peck, I have sprayed them with violet wound spray. I have scattered treats around. I can't separate them as they are already separate from my existing girls, plus they all do it to each other, so I would need four different places. I am worried it will turn to cannabalism
Lewis
I would be worried if they are pecking each other and drawing blood too. Did the rescue centre say anything about it and ways you could prevent against it? The BHWT have a great Advice Line, you can contact them on 01884 860084 or hens@bhwt.org.uk It sounds as if you re doing right with purple spray and keeping them occupied. If they are still going at each other, consider bumpa peak bits for a few weeks until their feathers have grown through.
Millie-Annie
No they just said 'they look a bit sore there" and when I said I had anti peck spray and gentian violet wound spray they said good
The Dogmother
I agree, this needs to be nipped in the bud before it escalates. The stress from the transportation and release may have made them a bit worse. I would fit bumpa bits soonest to prevent any unnecessary injuries and cannibalism. In the meantime, you are doing everything right Roughly where are you located? If you're not confident about fitting bits yourself, then perhaps one of us can help if you are near. Millie-Annie
It actually seems have improved. I have given them more space and today there was no actual blood. Well not until my Orpington decided to introduce herself. I thought with the feather pecking the quicker I can get them to free range together with lots of space, the better. I am in Northampton if anyone is local if needed?

Millie-Annie
An update. Three weeks down the line and we are fine. They were so easy to introduce, and once they had more space it all stopped. They have all feathered up nicely, except for poor Doris for some reason. Thank you for your advice and offers of help
