Why, Oh Why, Does Everything Beep?!

Recommended Posts

I have been at home today and getting stuck into the housework. Hardly a relaxing day but made more stressful by the fact that nearly every appliance in my house seems to beep at me in a very annoying, almost aggressive way (or maybe I am just too wound up about it  )

Firstly my alarm beeped to wake me, the microwave beeped to say it had defrosted the butter. My toothbrush beeped to say I had completed the requisite number of minutes. The alarm beeped as I locked the house to take the boys to school. The car beeped a I unlocked it.

Having got back home the washing machine beeped at me to tell me it was finished. Then the dehumidifier beeped to say it was full as I put it on to dry the washing. I took some meat out of the freezer for supper and had the door open too long; it beeped at me to tell me to shut it. I put some bread on and the timer beeped to say the Kenwood had done its 5 minutes then the oven beeped later to say the bread was done. I had missed a telephone call earlier and the answerphone was beeping to say there was a message.

I know that these machines have to warn us somehow but what about a gentle buzz, bong or hum? So much less strident than the aggressive beep that seems to be having a personal go at me for not paying attention (sorry, loosing the plot a bit here :shameonu: !!)

Quite frankly, I am beeping fed up with it! I would go for a lie down but the computer has just beeped at me to say I have a message so now I HAVE to look

 Our radio alarm is dreadful for the most urgent loud pitched beeps that get even louder the longer you ignore it. Granted that it is supposed to wake you up but it does give you virtual heart failure the moment it goes off and you jump up. Trouble is it's a double alarm - hubby has the first one - which happens to be the beep. It is timed for 4.30. My one at 7.30 is the music. I suppose it's the way it should be - inclined to ignore the radio and sleep right through!

I feel for you and I am glad that I am not the only one who is noise intolerant. The rest of the family can put up with the oven timer for ages, they will deal with whatever it is that has finished whatever it was doing before turning off the beep, I can't stand it, it drives me crazy

My alarm is a sunrise one which has a nice gentle plipping sound that gradually gets louder so it is like gently being tapped awake rather than heart failure.

Ah, I can't be doing with beeps either.

No beeping (or the ability to permanently disable said beeping) was a non-negotiable criterion for buying a washer and dryer last year.

That wasn't too hard (altho the dryer has ended up as being one of those that's been designated a fire risk! )

Now I want an oven that doesn't beep. Actually, a separate oven and microwave. I can't find either that doesn't beep.

My current combi oven beeps and being nagged by machinery is ultra-annoying!

My sewing machine beeps. It beeps when I reverse stitches and when I go forwards again. Then it beeps if I try and do the auto thread cutter too fast. Then it beeps if I've forgotten to put the foot down. It beeps more than anything else in this house! I told it off for beeping and then I started giggling to myself because I remembered this thread!
