AndyRoo
Hello Out of curiosity: will hens continue to lay through winter, just at a reduce production level? Thanks, Andy
Olly
Young hybrid hens, almost certainly yes. I don't think I've ever had these stop laying in winter. Older hybrids - possibly, they may go on laying or may slow down a little. Pure breed hens - much more likely to take a break from laying. It's all dependent on the hours of light in the day, commercial hen keepers use artificial light to keep them laying but most hobby chicken keepers don't choose to do that. If you get point-of-lay hybrids now you're pretty certain to have eggs on Christmas Day!
Luvachicken
One of my Pekins, sadly no longer here, started to lay on 1st January one year, otherwise my Pekins have a well earned rest.
