ebay experts, advice please

Recommended Posts

I have made a boo boo and need some advice what best to do.

I am selling two sofas on ebay and havent sold in years so was confused when I was doing the listings. Although I want to sell them, I dont want to accept a daft amount for them, I would rather donate them to a charity for them to make some money.

SO anyway I listed with an auction and buy it now price. AFTER I listed I realised that was not sensible and that would mean that if they dont reach an acceptable price they would sell anyway. I tried to alter the listing to remove the auction part, even though there were no bids on them I wasnt able to remove the auction. I comforted myself that someone may pay the buy it now price.

Now Ive realised I have bo booed there too. Both sofas now have a bid on them and the buy it now option has gone!!! Argh what a mess I have made. Can I add a buy it now aswell, why did it go. Is there any way out of this??? Can I stop the lisitngs and would there be a consequence?

Thanks. WHat an idiot I am

From my own experience you can end the listing, even if it has bids - this has happened to me with items that I have bid on. You have to give a reason when you end the listing but there should be a link to contact the bidders to apologise and explain what has happened. The Buy It Now option automatically dissapears when you have a bid made.

If you relist seperately you can put, in the listing, that you have another exactly the same listed but it could get complicated if you try and 'combine' both Listings!!!!!

Have you tried other sites like Gumtree? Thay are very good and easy to use...you won't pay for listing or photos, only if you want your items 'bumped up' or 'featured' which I never have. Gumtree also reaches a very local buyer base which is easier in terms of arranging pick up.

Yes you can end the auction as long as there's more than 24 hours to go

(I can't recall the acceptable criteria - error in listing should do it, I think)

Ebay gets grumpy if you do it too often

If you decide to relist, you need to put a reserve price on (I think the minimum reserve is £50)

If you have an auction and buy it now, the latter always ends

Perhaps put it/them up at a buy it now price (high) and be willing to accept offers (you can choose to accept offers or not)?

Gumtree - a variable experience. Seems ok for cars & so on if you know what you're doing with them. Less so for other things.
