Facing a challenge

Recommended Posts

Today I did Go Ape. I've avoided it since it started but recently, despite my default self-doubt I thought I could give it a go.

I had an amazing day with OH and three of my kids, obviously ES couldn't be there.

I found it masses of fun but also very challenging and by the end I was pretty tired.

I discovered my weaknesses and I'm going to work on those but all in all I'm dead pleased with how it went.

I have tons of wonderful memories of a great day.

Good for you! I'm terrified of heights, so I think I'd have a heart attack!

I do want to have a go at Go Ape one day - but I also want to lose about 60lbs before then, as I am afraid of snapping the rope!! lol

I've also promised my OH that I will make it to the top of the Eiffel Tower one day. Last time we went I got freaked out walking up to the second floor and had to turn back!

Thank you for saying that GrandmaShazzie but I have to be honest, the majority of my days are quietly domestic with flurries of activity. Today I'm prepping a pile of veg for the freezer and listening to TeamRock and I will be very happy.

AndyRoo.. that's what I did. I didn't want to go to GoApe unprepared so I've been working at losing weight and getting stronger until I felt ready. I didn't do quite enough and found climbing up the rigging bit after the Tarzan swing very, very difficult and it used a lot of my energy.

You'd probably find it ok because you're a male but there is a marginally easier route which I should have chosen really.

I'm wary of heights too but because I was harnessed and clipped on at all times it didn't bother me as much as I expected. They give a very thorough training session before you start.

There was a chap dashing about the course who is 72!! That's a very cheery thing.

Could you not do it without him? Perhaps if he came along for support? Or is he refusing to let you have a go because he is worried for your safety?

PL - I admire you for doing that :D I do not have the guts. I get labrynthitis which is like dizziness and vertigo, which wouldn't help, but really I just don't think I could do it. It'd be a real mind over matter challenge for me, I'm not much good just going up ladders.

Last year my son and his friend wanted to do it. When we got there I realised they needed an adult and no one else would do it. So I stepped in very hesitantly as I am no skinny minny and not very fit. Gosh I ached in places I didn't know existed. About half way round I really wanted to cave in but the pair of them were besides themselves. I'm not sure if I can say it was fun - well some of it was. I think I'd even do it again!!!

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Soapdragon, I think this one is fairly close to you, Wendover Woods but there are loads all over. It cost around £30 each and took about two hours.

Catie B...I ache all over today and have bruises all over too. I also have a massive sense of achievement.

Daphne - the zip wires were my favourite bits apart from getting woodchips in my clothes and hair.
