Mavis_Dingleberry
Hi all, I've had a poorly girl for 5 days now. She was initially hunched up and fluffed but still eating. 2 days ago her crop was noticeably enogorged and looked like sour crop. I carefully followed Christains suggestion of helping her empty it and she duly produced 2 good amounts of watery blackly vomit. I've kept her separated on just water for 24hrs. She's bright in herself when I stroke her and has pottered around the house but puff back up a bit when left to settle. She has poor and two this am were watery with green solid bits... 1)Does this fit in with not eating ???? 2) I've bought some Daktarin shall I get on and treat assuming also fungal infection in crop??? 3) what shall I now feed her???? Thanks ever so
gavclojak
I would get on with the dactarin* give only tiny amounts of water, small and often Is the way to go. I would also only feed small amounts of pellets mixed with water or mash, something that passes through the crop easily, and I mean small, maybe a tablespoon every few hours. Did her crop empty fully? Are you sure there is not an impacted crop? See if her crop empties in the morning after she has had a few feeds, if not try some live maggots. *not licensed for use on poultry
Mavis_Dingleberry
Thank you! I'm pretty sure it's empty, certainly not visible this morning but was still slightly fluctuant. I'll try and give it another go in the morning. Re:Daktarin , although not licenced...should I think about something else??? Thanks so much for helping
mullethunter
When one of mine had the same symptoms I did exactly what Gavclojak suggests using the same stuff. The patient got better although it did happen again a couple of times. Might be worth getting some avipro avian to put in her water when she's recovered to sort out her gut bacteria. Good luck. gavclojak
Re the daktarin, anything you use that will be useful will not be licensed, I used nystatin off licence. It's an anti fungal/thrush treatment that I got on private prescription from my vet but if memory serves correct daktarin is the same base ingredients. My girl was an ex commercial girl who pigged herself for the first week and ended up with sour crop, she only ever had it once.
The Dogmother
Keep her hydrated with water containing a fairly strong dilution of poultry tonic. Give her 3mls of neat ACV twice a day, and introduce food on day 3. Don't feed any fruit, which will ferment. I would add ACV to their water twice a week. Mavis_Dingleberry
thank you. I use ACV in their water each time it's changed anyway but have never given it neat to them...I'm not sure how to go about giving it? Also, stupid question but do I keep treating with Daktarin until she's back to normal?? Thank you
The Dogmother
I administer ACV with a dosing syringe, videos are on youtube to show you how. I don't use Daktarin, just ACV
mullethunter
No don't use daktarin indefinitely. I think I used for 3 days.
