permanent site this week - just want to double check

Recommended Posts

I've decided my chickens need a permanent site in the garden before winter. I was going to get some aubiose, but I just want to check what I do with it. Do I just put it over the grass where the girlies are going to spend the winter, or do I have to put something else underneath. And how permanent is permanent?

straight on grass, not that there will be any left after a day or two! Don't be tempted to spread it too thickly - a bale lasts me ages, you need enough to cover the ground but they don't need inches of it.

It is the most fantastic product and makes keeping chickens much more fragrant and less labour-intensive!

i always move my eglu around the grass in my garden so where their eglu is changes every fortnight or so, i do it so the grass hastime to growback before its used again

I've tried that, and the grass does grow back, but garden is not very big and am fed up having to reseed the lawn every week, unfortunately.

How long will my "permanent" site last? I will rake through and replace the aubiose every week or so... I'm hoping it will last over the winter.

mine have been on a permanent site for a year - and no intention to move them!

See my gallery if you want an idea.

We have hemcore in the run which the chickens love, the poos just disappear in it. We change the top layer of hemcore weekly and remove all the run contents once a month, but you dont have to do it that often - I just like a clean run!!:wink:
