Louise
Those that know me may be aware I have been having some horrendous skin problems on my hands and fingers well i got to the specialist and he is in agreement with the occupational health doctor that it is a type of glove I sometimes wear at work that has caused the problem BUT He thinks I have an allergy to the material my steering wheel is made from which is stopping it from going away as I no longer use the offending nitrile gloves When they make plastic they use an accelerant to make the material supple and stretchy and that leeches for years and it would appear I am sensitive you couldn't make it up could you so I am allergic to metal AND plastic now Oh and I am now off to the dentist hey my life just gets better I want Herbie back he was old and non leeching and nice to me

Popcorn
You obviously need a chauffeur Louise. Perhaps your butler could do it for a while while you recover
Louise
No Herbie was a 1990 MX5 He used to switch his own lights on which is how he got the name Chauffer would be nice but after the dentist bills there is no cash for that Gina

Louise
It has to be gloves because it will include the gear stick door handles and the handbrake
The Dogmother
You'll just have to get a set of pink fluffy accessories for your steering wheel, gear k"Ooops, word censored!" etc! Nah, how about a pair of kinky leather driving gloves....? I reckon that by far the best option is to have Simon in his pants driving you around Louise! Cinnamon
I reckon that by far the best option is to have Simon in his pants driving you around Louise! She would get driven to loads of places, but never get out of the car if that were the case

Cate in NZ
Oh dear Louise, it sounds like a real problem. It sounds like gloves probably are the most practical solution even if Simon or a chauffeur sound a lot more fun
The Dogmother
I can just see Louise (not) in ladylike white cotton Miss Marple gloves!!!
Louise
Oi They will have to be leather as cotton or woolen the substances will leech through With my metal problems I am unable to wear jeans because of the studs and zips and people just tell me to tuck a shirt in but I still react I suspect the plastic will be the same
The Dogmother
Any excuse to wear leather!
feemcg
Sorry to hear about your skin problem Louise - I know how debilitating skin conditions can be, having had eczema all my life. My latest diagnosed allergy is to Rosin (Colophony) which is a resin used in the manufacture of loads of household items such as make-up, sticking plasters, medicines, cleaning products and loads more. This is in addition to my allergies to peanuts, cashew nuts, peas, lentils, latex, cats, dogs, horses etc. No wonder I carry adrenaline
Louise
Blimey Fee I have the patches on at the moment and there are a couple of very itchy bits so I can't wait to get them off tomorrow and more importantly to see the Doctor on Friday so I can have my back washed to get the allergens off
The Dogmother
Luckily only a couple of everyday things start me off, but I wear a MedicAlert bracelet for morphine.
Popcorn
Fee! You poor old thing you. Oh my goodness, what a list of things. Allergies are the most awful thing, you must get times when you feel like pulling your body parts off! A funny thing happened to me actually. I was allergic to salysilates (naturally found in citrus fruits, cruciferious vegs, bananas, red wine, tomatoes etc) and would end up with the most horrendous hives on my hands, arms and face. I saw many specialiasts at the hospital over a few years and in the end was told to avoid these foods. As the allergy came from nowhere, I was determind it would go again. I spoke to a herbalist who recommended that I take large doses of Vitamin B and C for 12 months. I did, and guess what? I'm not allergic anymore. The B and C vits apparently built up my immunity enough for me to start eating the foods again. But - what a thing. There were times when I would have to go and lay down in a bath of cold water to stop the itching.
Sheilaz
Oi With my metal problems I am unable to wear jeans because of the studs and zips and people just tell me to tuck a shirt in but I still react I suspect the plastic will be the same I find sticking a plaster over the jeans stud stops the irritation. Sorry to hear about the car / hand probs.
feemcg
I had the last lot of patch testing last year - it was horrible not being able to get my back wet for a week and there was one wee patch where I felt someone was holding a burning cigarette on my skin - it looked like that when the patch came off too! I so wanted to scratch it.
The Dogmother
I only found out about the morphine allergy a couple of years ago - I'd never needed to have opiates before; it was pretty scary not being able to breathe, gettting colder and colder, and seeing the nurses panic I was sick as a dog afterwards too. chocchick
It's funny the nitrile gloves are often to avoid an allergy with latex. Our stores stopped the latex gloves, but the blue nitrile ones were rubbish and kept splitting very safe I think someone in my lab is allergic, she needed drugs and special handcream/handwash. Horrible being allergic to your car. I have a horse allergy, cat allergy and hayfever. Luckily they're quite mild, although of course I like horses so have to take antihistamines, and end up stroking cats and wondering why I'm a bit allergic a few hours later.
