Boris70
I have to say I'm going to blot out the reposnses about the really long labours - I like the one about the 6, 4 and 2 hour labours, now they sound good to me! I still think Christmas shopping will do the trick for the next couple of weeks, as I can do that out at the shops or off the web. I must resisit more chickens....I must resisit more chickens! Tina C
I wish I had had time to get bored - I thought I had at least 3 weeks to wait (they insist the first one 'is always late'. Hhmpph) but she popped out a week after I stopped working. I was wondering why I was feeling so restless during the first week of my leave. Did not have bag packed, no pram, totally disorganised. Had not even finished decorating our room - we had only recently moved in. Oh and a word of advice - make sure the nesting instinct hits when you are in your own home. The insides of my friend's cupboards had never before been so clean... So do all the things that have been suggested but don't be surprised if things don't go according to plan (a bit like the rest of your life once you have children). Hope you have a lovely few weeks and an easy labour.
sparkleeeeee
a birthing ball is the same as a pilates ball (but they charge more money for it if its called a birthing ball ) i got mine from argos for £7.99 a few years ago and then when i had my second bought one in the asda sale for £1.99 for emergencies as i had a home birth and was convinced that if i didnt have a spare my old one would burst ( which it didnt silly pregnancy brain ) i have given them both away now but they are found in the sport/keep fit section in the argos book. they are just a big ball that you sit on. when i had a bad back with my first pregnancy (siatica (sp?)) my doctor told me to sit on it instead of the sofa. it is comfy. also to bring the baby down, you sit on it and make circular motions. i found it very useful. i think this is one http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3023792/Trail/C%24cip%3D1500006228.Sports%2Band%2Bfitness%3EC%24cip%3D1500006269.Home%2Bgym%2Bequipment%3EC%24cip%3D1500006272.Fitness%2Baccessories.htm

The Dogmother
They are really good for other exercises and improving your posture when sitting. I use them for crunches, back extensions and sitting on with my feet off the floor to strengthen my core muscles. I don't have one myself, but use a purple one at the gym. Boris70
I've got a ball too. NCT website - they are £17.99 +, but tesco sells them for less than a fiver. As someone else said - great for posture - even if your not completely balanced in the wrong direction!
chickencam
Try going to the cinema and eating popcorn because you may not get the chance again for ages. I'm lucky beacuse I love to be at home with my chooks and cats and enjoy the peace and quiet of being alone. Avoid daytime tv very depressing, read a good book or two, I have always loved reading but only got around to reading about two books in my first 13 yrs as a parent. Reading again now though, so relaxing and total escapism Good luck, Its like sitting on a time bomb isn't it. three times was enough for me

BeckyBoo
I love reading, sadly all I seem to manage these days is about two pages before I fall asleep! I'm ever so broody, would LOVE another one but OH says 3 is enough, and we'd have to move to get enough bedrooms or double them up and live with the fights, mind you I've got enough room in the car...... Good luck, remember, it's only pain! Mrs Bertie
Jules.
I told myself that labour is an experience that you just "live through" & it doesn't last forever. Each pain is a step closer to your baby
chickencam
Pain that you know the reason for and you know it has an end. You can do an awful lot to cope with it by relaxing and going with it using it to produce your baby. Three times with no pain relief, how smug am I I know I was lucky and I am thankful for it. Nearly as smug as me! After the first which was a bit of a disaster - every possible intervention known to man short of a c section, the second two were like shelling peas, and no pain relief at all! I just did exactly what I felt would ease the pain and if you follow your own instincts it's much easier.

In fact I nearly had the 3rd one in the car park. I remember leaning over the bonnet of someones car during an almightly contraction and setting their alarm off. It was all over within moments of me going through the door of the unit. We had the usual "I need to push"...."Nonsense Dear" type conversations followed by "Oh bloomin 'eck....can someone get me a delivery pack!" Great fun.
