Boris70
Hi, I started my maternity leave yesterday - just over 3 weeks to go until the baby is due, and I'm so bored! I shopped yesterday for baby things, and today I have been unpacking boxes (we moved 10 weeks ago). Daytime TV is rubbish - what else can I do? I know I'm going to miss this time on my own when the baby is here, and everyone say rest - as you'll need it - but I'm bored. Also - this waiting for the baby to arrive, it's the only uncertain thing - and the most frustrating as you can't really plan for it definitely - only an approximate guess! Any ideas on what I can do - so not too bored welcome (I got more chickens last week, so can;t get anymore for a little while).
Egluntyne
OOOh how exciting. Get your Christmas shopping done!!!!! I know it seems ages away, but you may feel quite tired for a few weeks when the baby comes, and s/he might not get into the dreaded routine that all MIL's bang on about straight away so shopping trips will be challenging to organise. Guest
When I had my maternity leave before the birth of my eldest, I took heed of all the advice to take things easy, and did things that i mighten have had time for after the birth. I got my hair cut, wrote my Christmas cards (It was a bot closer to Christmas than this, but not much!), made sure legs and armpits were kept shaved, stocked up the freezer with food, ready to bung in the oven, and generally 'nested'. It's such a frustrating time, waiting for the birth, but in a few weeks time, the fun'll begin!
BeckyBoo
You have my sympathy, it's no fun being bored, especially when you're waiting for something so momentous, time just drags! Papmer yourself if you like that sort of thing, pack your bag (if you haven't already,) go swimming, that can feel lovely in the last few weeks, write Christmas cards, keep checking the nursery and try to imagine what it will be like with a small noisy occupant. Daytime TV is mind numbing in my opinion but bearing in mind that in a few short months you'll only have Bob the Builder and the Night Garden to compare it to I'd make the most of it! Got any friends you can visit who aren't too far away? Meet up with mates for coffee, I'm saying all of this but all I did was sit around and get bored with my first, with the other two I didn't have time for any sitting around! Good luck, I can highly recommend homeopathy in labour, hope you get the birth you want. Mrs B
theherd123
Catch up with friends, go out for lazy lunches, take a walk in the park, cook loads of meals for the freezer, get a massage, have your toes nails done as you probably cant reach them, spend time with the chooks, plan what you are going to grow in the vegy patch next season (if you have one that is) ......... I could go on!
Jules.
I know what you mean about being bored, I was when I started my maternity leave with Alexander- nearly 11 years ago. All my friends were working full time, & the days seemed sooooo long. I would say get as much sleep as you can (it's a shame it can't be bottled for later!) & echo everyone else- writing Christmas cards & getting all your present shopping done (and wrapped) should cover a few days for you. I was told book something to do if you go overdue, have something planned so that the time waiting doesn't seem as bad. Homeopathy in labour/afterwards is great, arnica pilliules a must for bruising.Lavender oil & jasmine oil mixed with a little milk is great in a bath at any time. Stay as relaxed as you can during your labour! It's very exciting!

Boris70
Thansk for the replies, I'm thinking Christmas shopping could be a winner, and christmas cards. Make stuff for the freezer - I would do - but I'm waiting for the new one to be delivered next week (as OH broke the old one!). Veggie patch, I'd love to plan, however I don't actully have one yet, as we haven't got round to the garden properly yet - we sorted the chickens first of course, but then thought we should concentrate on the house! I just wish I was a bit more mobile (like being abel to bend), as I'd start planting bulbs for next year . massage and pedicure - yep - that'll happen - as you're right - I can;t reach my toes anymore!!! Boris70
Should add - it's due date is the 6th of November - I think it's going to be early - but no idea why??? Names - yep - we've thought of some - but are waiting until we can the baby - as I'm sure when I'll see this little face looking up at me none of the names we've chosen will fit! Popcorn
Good luck with it all Vicki. You must be getting excited now to meet your little miracle. I remember being bored too. Infact, this thread has reminded me of a cartoon I printed off and stuck to the kitchen wall.... it's here... http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a380/Ginapopcorn/vim_strip2059.gif I did do a lot of 'nesting' although I didn't realise it at the time. I organised all of my kitchen cupboards and had a jolly good tidy up of the bottom of my wardrobe. It's still boring though, there's no way around it. Had I been given my time again, I would make some easy meals for quick defrosting.
The Dogmother
I had just two weeks off before having Rosie, I decorated, cleaned the windows and sewed... all things there wouldn't be time for with a new baby. Take it easy, realx and enjoy your time off. When you have a baby, you wonder what on earth you did with your spare time before
sparkleeeeee
read your baby some nice books and play him/her some classical music. i did this through both my pregnancies. the workmen often saw me reading a book with a set of huge headphones around my belly. both my kids love the baby cd that i made before my first was born and get really excited when i put it on. try looking at netmums or mumsnet on the web as i found some of the discussions really useful, you can also make some friends who are due at the same time. the last few weeks do drag, when i was waiting for my first baby i used to go the the auctions and collect bits for the house. i read the contented little baby book and planned my feeds for the first few months, i had charts etc but they only lasted a few weeks. the book is a must have though i had my little boy sleeping through the night from six weeks. i didnt use it on my second as i didnt have the time (with a toddler as well and a major renovation project going on in the house) and she first slept through the night at 18months. have a nice relaxing time and enjoy the last weeks it is a special time. feemcg
At 36 weeks I think I was doubling up my Raspberry Leaf Tablets and 'twiddling' with my cervix ( sorry) to get myself into labour!
Egluntyne
Why?
Jules.
Raspberry leaf tea/tablets are meant to help the uterus contract more effectively in labour. I took them 2nd time around. I'd forgotten about them!

I'd forgotten about them! I know that it was why you would want to induce labour a month early that I was puzzled about. Raspeberry leaf tablets work very well. My youngest little darling was born 18 years ago TODAY!! and I took them for about a month before he arrived. He weighed 9lb 12oz and it was a very easy birth. I won't bore you with the details. feemcg
Because I was a very impatient and naughty midwife - I actually meant more in the sense of feeling my cervix and hoping it was ripening or dilating. I actually went into labour at 35 weeks and 6 days with Anna - without going anywhere near my cervix . I do think Raspberry Leaf helps - my labours have been 6,4 and 2 hours p.s. I wouldn't advise anyone to mess about with their cervix - you could do some damage if you don't know what you're looking/feeling for Edited October 13, 2007 by Guest
Guest
I drank raspberry leaf tea religiously when due Duncan and Owen, and had a 26 hour labour and a 32 hour labour......
Popcorn
2 hours, Fee that's brilliant! Stefan didn't want to come out. I tried all the tricks, but non worked. After 46 hours of labour, I had a C-section. I was exhausted.
sparkleeeeee
my first was 32hrs and ended with a voentouse (sp???) and i had pre-eclampsia. i wasnt alowed to walk around or used the ball as planned because he was in distress so i am convinced it made it worse not letting gravity help. the second time around i had a home birth 2hrs labour midwife almost missed it, didnt really hurt had 5 mins gas and air (as it froze in the midwifes car and they didnt have time to get it to work) i had an active labour and used the birthing ball. it was great. i used the ball loads to bring the baby down in the last month. i was really relaxed making cups of tea, having a bath etc at home. you cant beat a home birth, not that i intend having anymore, if i did, i would do a home birth again.
