Any i-tunes experts out there?

Recommended Posts

itunes does some very strange things at times, but fortunately i have never lost all my music, I am sure it must still be on your hard drive somewhere.............My teenage son is the expert and uploads all my music for me I will ask him tomorrow if he has any ideas on how you could retieve it.......

humm, check in My Music > iTunes > iTunes Music, if its not there, I dont think there is anything else you can do. Did you backup??

Found it - it was there *phew*

Thanks for your help everyone.

Of course all the playlists have gone, so guess what I will be doing this weekend?

Also, none of my previously purchased stuff is showing on the purchased bit, although I do still have it.....

Next question - if I plug my pod in now, can I download what is on it to a new playlist, or do I need to make a new one?

You can drag it over to your iPod. I never use the synch stuff on the iPod/iTunes as it caused me too many hassles.

However, before you do anything, follow Fred's path (my documents/my music/itunes/itunes music. And back it all up somewhere else - preferably on a removable hard disc.

Then you know you have all your files.

Incidentally it annoy me that I have to buy the tracks as iTuney files (mpeg4) as I store them all as MP3's if i can. I know you can convert them.

I hate iTunes - it is a control freak and you have to make sure you set it so that it doesn't take over your system! But I still use it - and curse it regularly :evil::evil:

We also had a very similar incident about 2 months ago.

The hard drive on our PC had to be replaced & we lost everything on it including I-tunes. :(

Luckily, all our photos had been saved to CD but nothing else had been backed-up.

As we had 45 days worth of music we were rather worried!

OH eventually found some software to copy music back from Ipod to I-tunes as newly loaded itunes would not recognise our Ipod!

If anyone need the details of the software, let me know.

Hi - are ipods worth buying?

I've had a nice sum of wonga for my birthday & feel like treating myself to one of the new 3G ipods ready for my new car! woohoo!

I looked at them in France but they were a lot more, than over here. At the moment I have a Japanese import that is a complete copy of the first ipod mini. It's good enough, but I like all the docking stations (especially the bose) that are are compatible with Ipods.

Help!

I use Bose QuiteComfort 2 headphones (noise cancelling) with my i-pod and would highly recommend them. Songs that I've known for years sound even better. The Bose headphones have an option to play "no noise" which really is fantastic, complete silence. If my house was burning down and I could only rescue 3 things they would possibly be 1st. along with my vinyl record collection and one of the twins!!!!!

I really like my iPods - I have a 60Gb photo one (which only has music on it) and a little 4Gb Nano which I carry around. The big one sits in my iHome alarm clock and wakes me up in the morning which is great - much better than my old alarm clock.

I curse iTunes as it is a control freak of a programme, however it does work fine and makes putting music on and off pretty easy.

On the whole, I see no reason to change from an iPod. Getting it fixed if you have a problem is iffy; I ended up seeing one of their Geniuses in the London store - which was an adventure in itself - but I have had one replaced because it was faulty and there wasn't a lot of difficulty in getting it sorted really - just the usual difficulties with any firm you have to deal with online rather than face to face.

I'd buy a new one - and in fact have just seen a new Nano that my son has bought for his girlfiend. It is lovely.

I was a real traitor to my old vinyl - having carted it around for many many years, from house to house, I converted it all to MP3 and took it to a charity shop.

I know - it was a terrible thing to do, but her indoors made me.

Women ... Oh no! I forgot, I'm not allowed to make comments like that, I'll be in trouble again .......

I also have the 60 GB ipod. I put some of the FREE TV programmes that itunes offer on to mine (Question Time, Gardeners World etc) and watch them when travelling by train, though only if I can get a seat!!!

Converted mine too, took for ever, every song in real time, then put it all back in the loft!!!

We have a regular conversation

Mrs Clash City Rocker will say "couldn't we sell all that vinyl on ebay"?

to which the usual reply is " only if i can sell you on ebay first"

I listen to my iPod on the train as I travel a lot by train. Mind you, I sleep a lot of it!

We are dedicated Ipod fans in our household.

We each have one of our own & I'm thinking of getting a nano as well to use at the gym as the classic is a liitle awkward.

If you're thinking of getting a dedicated speaker I cannot praise the Bose sounddock enough - it's divine :D:D We also dock it to our main hifi for serious listening!

And next week when our hens arrive, we'll be able to listen to music on the sound dock whilst watching the girls - how perfect will that be?

Thanks guys ! Ipod new nano it is then & probably the bose headphones and dock. Absolutely love Bose. We have a Bose wave & that is what we would rescue in a fire!!!

Just one last question...any music you download, does it have to be from itunes? or can you put any Mp3 onto an ipod?? Are itunes costly?

Emma.x

I put all sorts of stuff onto my iPod - shove it in a folder onto your computer and then import it into iTunes.

If you put stuff on from a CD it will try to put it as Mpeg4s but you can set it to import them as MP3s

If you buy stuff it is locked to only allow you to play it on, I think, 5 computers (so you can't go round giving it to everyone you know).

If you buy from iTunes Store they come as MPeg4s

stuff from iTunes Store is £0.79p per track - except the free track they give away every week which is, well, free. Sometimes its worth listening to as well.

Hi - can you not just drag tunes from your computer onto your ipod & not have anything to do with itunes, as this is what we do with our creative Mp3 player. I would not want to buy any tunes as we already have thousands of Mp3's & when we do buy an albumn, we like to buy the actual CD, not a compressed version of it (hubby DJ).

I love iTunes and (touch wood) so far no problems with it. I even let it take control of everything, the folder structure it creates on your hard-drive is pretty much what I was doing before anyway so I just leave it to it (artist\album\tracks etc). The syncing works fine, just make sure you back up everything every now and then (including all the iTunes xml files).

As for putting your tracks back into the 'Purchased' list, just drag & drop them back in and they will be fine.

:lol::lol: they are now doing a podcast of The Archers!

I won't have to spend Sunday mornings doing something that keeps me within radio range, I'll be able to load them on my iPod and listen on the tube!

I have an ancient iPod mini, but I'll definitely upgrade it when it wears out, I love it.
