Richard
I know absolutely nothing about rugby, but I have to admit to being as pleased as a person who is very very pleased if we can beat our cousins(?) from across the Channel. The Dogmother
It's bound to happen really. I was surprised that we beat France actually; they usually trounce us!
Richard
It's bound to happen really. I was surprised that we beat France actually; they usually trounce us! ah but that may be because they truly believe that the French are the best at everything, whereas we don't really believe that the English will ever win anything. We make a big fuss when we do have someone who does well, but actually we are much better at being heroic losers (which is why we celebrate Scott, one of the major (and really rather hopeless imo) losers in our history. The French know that anything French is better than anything else that any other nation can possbly produce. I remember a French visitor taking the mick of my bath mixer taps because they came out hot one side of the stream of water and cold the other - whereas in France they had proper mixer taps that really mixed the water so it came out an even temperature throughout the stream of water. Yeh Right! That same Frenchman told a joke about hiding a £5 note from an Englishman by hiding it under the soap. Despite us part of a crew of 8 (mainly French) racing a 42 footer on the South Coast of France, and the 6 Frenchmen in the crew not having changed their boxers for at least a week! And there was one woman in the crew (her indoors).
