soapdragon Posted March 15, 2021 Share Posted March 15, 2021 Our lovely Syrian, Hilda, has settled in really well with us; since October she has become very hand tame and likes to come out and see us most evenings. However, on four consecutive evenings recently she has sat with me quite happily then gone to sit with ES and them wee'd all over him! We thought it may be the texture of his sweatshirt and PE top but he wore a different on this evening and she tiddled on that! We cannot work out why she has started doing this and it has been four days running and only on ES......my only guess is that ES (age 16) must have some sort of smell that provokes this behaviour, hormones or something! She isn't distressed at all and there are no other changes in her behaviour. An ideas, anyone??? soapdragon Posted March 16, 2021 Author Share Posted March 16, 2021 Hmmm, yes I thought that an old towel might be our next step; I'll raid the airing cupboard. For the first three times ES was wearing a school PE top so shiny polyester (eugh!) and we thought it might be a textural thing but last night was in a freshly washed and ironed (grrrr!) cotton hoodie so wasn't that. She didn't wee on me and I was letting her run all over me for about 5 mins before ES came down on all 4 occasions....hence me thinking it just may be something hormonal/scent based! As to ES stripping to his pants, MH...he's 16 and a tad self concious so I prob won't suggest it ! Also her claws tickle so we'll try the towel this evening and see what happens! It's just so odd that she has suddenly started doing this when we've been handling her so well for a while.....doesn't happen when we clean her out and YS holds her. ES is now, understandably, terrified of being wee'd on so hasn't held her since the last 'episode'!! However, she came out to say hello last night and ran all over me without incident. When she wees on ES it's a very deliberate act and I do think that it may well be hormone related....she runs into his hands before he lets her sit on his jumper so has the chance to get a whiff of his scent. ES hasn't started dating yet (he's 16) so I do sincerely hope that he has more success with human females! Hades, on the other hand, seems to be 'fading'......hes not 2 until June but is really slowing down and looking very old.
