Cinnamon
I simply could not be more excited - we are forecast for snow today ! I LOVE snow Is it just me, or do we not get as much of it now as we did when we were kids? I remember......... The School bus not being able to get up the hill to take me to School for 5 days! My Dad having to sled down the hill to Waitrose to get us supplies which he then dragged up the hill. Having to dip my Ponies Hooves in hot water to break up the snowballs that got stuck in them. It once snowed so much that a tree came down (we lived in a woods) & knocked out our electricity. We lived & slept in the living room around the open fire & cooked soup & crumpets. THAT was proper snow !!!
Mel (& Paul)
I can remember the snow of 76 (77?) It was just after the really hot summer. The snow was really deep and came over the top of my wellies (mind you I wasnt very big!). We went sledging on tin tea trays (none of those posh sledges for us!) and built proper snowmen and I LOVE snow - but we very very rarely get it down here
Richard and Jo
in 86 it was so deep cars were found in drifts when it melted. We walked across the pond on Wimbledon Common. midnight sledging on Epsom Downs. Come on snow 1 inch deep now

Cate in NZ
I don't remember much snow in '86, I was living in London then and remember some bitterly cold journeys to work on my little moped, but no snow to speak of. That said I got married in April '86, and we had tiny snow flurries early that morning, nothing that lasted though thank goodness. I do remember major snow though early Feb '91. We were going skiing and actualy had to dig the car off the front drive and struggled down the road aided by shovels, pushing and worrying . There was more snow at home than there actually was at our ski resort destination That was the last heavy snowfall I remember although we've had a few short-lasting but heavy episodes since. ali-s
I remember the snow in 1991. Everyone at work got to go home except me , someone had to man the phones When I eventually left work struggled to get a bus and then when I reached my stop slipped and fell on my front, I was 6 months pregnant at the time No damage thank goodness but I did milk it and took a week off
Sheilaz
I was thinking of the winter of '62/63, now that was a proper winter.

Sheilaz
We were young then Sheila! Yes, I wish I'd said '86 now! That was snowy too, I remember my boys in those great all in one snowsuits, playing for hours. Also, getting exhausted pulling them for ages on the sledge! The Dogmother
Just caught this one - I am snow mad too! We have been forecast snow tomorrow (Thursday), but as we didn't get much at all the last time, I don't hold out much hope for any this time. The Dogmother
So sorry to hear about that Myles. We didn't get to go in the castle, just walked round the gardens which were lovely in the snow. Do you go to Chatsworth to see the chooks there? We are planning to make a day trip up there this year. Might just come back with a bantam of two.... We've just had a little flurry of snow here this morning - bring it on....
