craftyhunnypie
Well this afternoon, I've felt dead posh as we took our neighbour to Crewe Hall for afternoon tea - for her 70th birthday! We had a 3 tiered stand with finger cut triple decker butties (oh sandwiches sorry), next tier was millefleurs, carrot cake & toffee & pecan tarts, top layer was mini scones with jam & clotted cream!!! Diet day off today!!! Oh & posh tea too, none of your PG tips or typhoo. Very nice!!! But I'm hungry again now & fancy a proper buttie with thick corned beef & branston pickle - sorry, but I can't be posh!!!!! Emma.x

Rona
Sounds lovely. You need to eat an awful lot of posh sandwiches to get filled up.

Guest
Mmmm afternoon tea is may favourite part of the day on a good cruise. On the QE2 they do the most divine cheesy sandwiches but on the Queen Mary they don't do them! So just cucumber for me there!

Guest
I know I'm sooo posh! We got a couple of cracking deals on the QE2, free child place and everything. Although the service was appaling last summer.
Clash City Rocker
We cruised for the first time this summer, around the "Med", Barcelona, Naples, Corsica etc, I wasn't really looking forward to it (thought it might be a bit stuffy in a posh way!!!). It was great, can't recomend it enough, travelled with Thompsons on the "Celebration" brilliant. Can't really comment on the afternoon tea's as I never really stopped eating for the whole holiday, it was just food followed by food, followed by more food. Can't remember which bit was "elevenses", "Early Lunch","Lunch", "Late Lunch", "Afternoon tea", "High Tea", "Early Tea", "Tea", "Late Tea" or "Dinner". Just food of the highest quality and loads of it...Ace
Sheilaz
Afternoon tea? Mmmmm...for some reason this topic caught my eye. Souinds like a lovely birthday celebration. If I only had myself to please, I would happily not have a cooked dinner in the evening. Decent breakfast & lunch, then "high tea" as you've described, with maybe a snack supper. Ooooh, it's that time of day. Family!...where are my cucumber sandwiches, cake & enormous teapot? PS...they didn't answer. Oh well, I'll put the kettle. Then start peeling spuds
craftyhunnypie
Had to watch my P's & Q's and stir my tea quietly, use a napkin etc etc. It was nice, but also nice to get home light the fire, get my PJ's on, chill, talk normal, eat a proper doorstep buttie and slurp my coffee...followed by a large loud arrrrrrgh! QE2!!! Goodness Darling! & I thought the Mersey Ferry was special!! Emma.x
Guest
BTW for anyone who hasn't met me When I say I'm posh You just have to wait until I open my mouth and out comes the most horrendous Essex accent!
Rona
My son works in Dubai and when we visited a couple of years ago he treated us to afternoon tea at the Burj al Arab, the poshest place in a town that is full of posh places. After we had selected our tea from quite an extensive menu we were served a three-tiered cake stand with tiny tiny sandwiches and thumbnail sized cakes. We thought that was our lot and polished them all off but then they came round and asked if we wanted more sandwiches. We could have had as many as we wanted, but for all they were so tiny, we were surprisingly full up probably because we had scoffed all the cakes as well! So we only had room for the cream scones . It is incredibly posh there but as DS is training manager for a 5* he kept pointing out where the waiter slipped up / exceeded customer expectations etc. so that made us feel more relaxed. missuscluck
oooh crafty hunny pie. I have been to Crewe Hall for afternoon tea a few times. I live up the road from Crewe Hall. I could have done you a brew and a cake! Its great isnt it. Did you get the one with the pastry swans on it! My friend clare and I go when its our birthday for a birthday treat. We sit for ages chatting in those large comfy winged arm chairs pretending we are dead posh
craftyhunnypie
Ooo you must live in one of the black & white houses? I wonder how they make those swans?? We didn't get to sit in those high backed wing chairs So I'll have to go again!! The staff were getting ready for a wedding for today - yes Friday! I went on a nosey & saw the loveliest Xmas tree & the chapel & a sort of hall near the loos with a banqueting table in & a large candlelabra that was lit - gorgeous! I've been looking at where else we can go for afternoon tea. The wild boar hotel at Tarporley do it & so do Rookery hall. Could get used to acting 'the lady of the manor' just as long as I can talk normal when I come home! he he Emma.x
missuscluck
No I dont, but my friend lives in the first one. We live in Weston in the village. It is fab at Christmas. My birthday is christmas eve so we do usually go either just before or after so it is still christmassy. I belive, although I have never been fortunate to see it, that they have a snow machine which they use for christmas partys and weddings at christmas. It supposed to be amazing.
