Reliving the 1970's

Recommended Posts

I've never heard the Rolf Harris version, and hope I never do

Oh help, now I've got to defend Rolf Harris....I love the original but I do like Rolf's too...

Trouble is, I think I like everything from that decade...sorry, Lesley...much better to live in the present...I just haven't moved on yet......

Yesterday, due to sore eyes, gave my eyes a rest without lenses & wore sunglasses for the day (OK no sun that day) ..only at home..just so ALL the family could tease me.

My daughter turned round and said...."you look like..." thought I'd finish it for her..."someone famous?"...

"YEh, someone sort of 70's with your long cardigan" she said (doing well here I thought)

"and long hair".....I said..

"thats it..Ozzy Osbourne!" said daughter, collapsing hysterically....

:roll:8)8)8)

No offence to all the Hairies out there. It was more the weird make up and funny clothes that I found strange! Mind you, I did really like David Bowie and the make up and costumes did not come much weirder than that!

I am in total agreement with Trish, I hope never to hear Stairway to Heaven by Rolf Harris - I can only imagine how TRULY HORRIBLE is must have been and if anyone offers to send it to me the answer must be thanks but no thanks!

Poor Rolf Harris, sorry, it was more the thought of anyone doing a version of Stairway to Heaven, for me it's one of those songs that I don't want to hear changed in anyway. On the whole Rolf doesn't do it for me but some of his less well know, folky stuff is good. Just a shame that it's not often played on the radio etc

8)Marc Bolan/T.Rex anyone? 8)I had a real teenage crush on him

(My 1st crush was someone in "New World")..theirs was the only fan club that I joined, & I suspect it only had a couple of members...me & my best friend. I really thought if I wrote to them, they would pass my messages on. Only later realized it was prob. just someone at home opening post from gullible teenagers and cashing the postal orders!

Anyway, crush on Marc faded after about a year but, I did spend a whole week tracing his face & hair 8) from an album inner sleeve, then re-tracing it onto a T.Shirt, then using permanent ink for my very own individual T.Shirt! Wish I still had it...but then I did wear it every day!

I was into pop-punk around the late 70's early 80's, my all time favourites were XRay Specs with Poly Styrene singing Germ free adolescent I still know all the words, I also liked the Modettes and Siouxie and the Banshees.

I also loved the Mud Hutters the band my brother used to play lead guitar for I followed them everywhere, they even recorded a single it was a bit of a flop not many people bought it just friends and relatives I still have it in the loft somewhere............. ...

Great fun take me back any time carefree days..........

Ah, a bit different there, Nicola! One of my best friends was into punk and loved Siouxsie and the Banshees and X-Ray Specs. I went along the mod/Ska road in the late 70s and early 80s - The Specials, Selecter, Beat, Madness, Secret Affair, The Jam followed by Marillion in the mid-80s (saw them play live at the Milton Keynes bowl in 1984 - terrific!!) and The Police!

Sadly I hadn't heard of the Mud Hutters but that sounds very exciting! I used to play electric guitar - haven't got it out of the case for around 20 years now though

Oh Nicola, what memories. I loved Siouxie and the Banshees and my brother was majorly in to punk and pop punk so I do recognise most of the others you mentioned, not all my biggest favourites but still good music. I'll have to ask my brother about the Mud Hutters he was into the genre much more than me.

Kate I got into the Jam as well oh ! and the specials, Madness ,The beat, it is all coming back now I went from being a punk to a mod and goodness knows what happened after that.............:lol:

Imagine the joy of photographing Buster Blood Vessel for a moped mag.:lol::lol: He was still very large then but I read an article the other day that said he has had health problems and had to slim down some what. No suprise really the can can will never be the same.........:lol:

Trish I doubt anybody will have heard of the Mud Hutters, fame if any was very short lived, but they were too spaced out to care.......

I loved Bad Manners - Buster Blood Vessel was terrific! You jammy so and so  ! My best friend at school disowned me during my mod phase because I used to go round in a Harrington jacket (remember those? Black bomber jacket with a red tartan lining?) covered in those little pin on badges with the bands on and targets etc. trousers and clicky heeled loafers! I was a bit of a Tomboy but dead cool 8) !

I hate to admit this, but I went to the Status Quo "End of the Road" gig in Milton Keynes in 1984 - the last live gig they would ever do. It was excellent - everyone was singing along and having a great time.

Then the group announced they would be touring again shortly later  ! End of the road, my foot  !

Wasn't meaning to leave anyone out Fowlbird but you'll have to start a '60's thread!!!!

(and '80's anyone who got carried away on this one...I let it pass but not for long!)

I've still got some 60's singles actually, and love the music of that decade too.

Tremeloes anyone?

Sorry...... Amen Corner, Kinks, Lovin'Spoonful, New Faces,,,,

didn't the New Faces do the South Pier, Lowestoft before they got famous? PJ Proby did... My mate, Jeanette, got one of his shirts... Rolling Stones at the Royal Hotel (long before it got pulled down)

Oh dear...

Surely not! :wink:More my siblings time than mine, but I do remember a lot of the music & bands because of them.

I think Rod Argent (Zombies, & later Argent!) kissed my sister when she won "best dancing brunette at their gig"......haven't times changed!

I meant to say Small Faces..

& The Turtles, Gerry & the Pacemakers, Paul Jones....

who else Fowlbird? (OK, I'll let '60's in, but not ''80's!)

Aaaaaaagh! I fit somewhere in between you two!

The end of the Sixties and then the beginning of the Seventies. End of Seventies I wasn't having a good time generally so that's all at the back of my mind!

But I did have a Stevie Winwood key ring when I was 11.

I also collected all those bubble gum cards from Man from U.N.C.L.E - when was that?:oops::oops:

(I had to throw the bubble gum away as I wasn't allowed bubble gum!)

Fowlbird - have you been to the Age topic yet??? - It's your turn
