Martin B
Lesley you are very priviledged, but I think the birds are more privilidged to have such a fantastic caring owner! Where are you keeping all these birds at the moment? ---Martin--- (please tell us what they are called )

Martin B
Are you going to mix ellie with one of your new handsome ones? Baby Cream Legbars... how exciting Lesley if you get time tomorrow will you take some pictures of the inside of the ducklu, I'mk very interested into what it looks like! Do ducks lay daily like chickens? When they do lay eggs will they be fertile because you have a boy+girl. ---Martin---
Lesley
She hasn't started laying yet Martin - nearly ready, and yes, they will be fertile eggs. However - this sort of duck makes a terrible Mother - they get bored with sitting after just a few days - so if we want ducklings then we need to find a brrody hen or an incubator. Martin B
I read somewhere that hens are good duck mothers! Have you got a chook that could look after the duck eggs?? Can you eat fertile eggs? Will ellie get to mix with the new cockerels?
Lesley
When the cockerel is big enough! We are only keeping one - the others are dinners. Yes, you can eat fertile eggs. We'd have to wait until a hen went brrody of her own accord. The Ducklu looks just like the pink Eglu Martin - without the roosting bars (it is just an ordinary eglu)

Lesley
Martin asked how all the new ones have been accommodated............... The big run is already sectioned off for whenever we introduce new chickens. Currently, the 3 big Dinners go to bed in the ark in there and there is one green MK1 eglu on a platform. The run is divided with chicken wire about 5'6" tall and has a gate made from 5' trellis. so................we put a piece of the Omlet netting across the gap at the top of the wire but left it loose and overlapping. We moved the green eglu into the main part of the run and put the pink eglu down on the floor. The idea was that the 8 little cockerels now have the ark. The 8 layers go in the two green eglus and the 3 big Dinners would be put into the pink eglu (they never go to bed on their own but have to be persuaded ) The ducks have the blue eglu and a run and extension. Reality was - Carl had to crawl the whole length of the new run and extension to put the ducks to bed - ducks never take themselves to bed so this is going to be a nightly performance and really needs videoing Then we went to close the door of the ark where the little cockerels should have gone to bed. Earlier, they had all been in and out of the ark so they knew where to go. Two were perched on the platform inside their part of the run. Three were perched on top of the 5' trellis gate and two had flown up between the Omlet netting and the wire netting and were perched on the edge of the wire netting -on the big girls side They are now all in bed
