xScrunchee
Just has to be Oliver for me. Love it soooo much and the kids love it when I burst into a chorus of Omm Pah pah whilst dancing around the front room. (The cries of 'Muuuummmm stop it!!' can be heard for miles around!!) Tina C
Saw Phantom many moons ago when Michael Crawford was in it - it was fantastic but I think you have to like the music to get the most out of it as its a bit 'operatic'. http://www.thephantomoftheopera.com/poto/meet/meet_cast_lists_orig.php From the same stable I can recommend Cats the Musical if its on tour again - never fancied it when I lived in London but took Layla last year and found it mesmerising. Couperman
Got to be 'Return to the Forbidden Planet' for me! Shakespears forgotten rock and roll masterpiece! I've seen it a few times, will go again when they are next up our way. Kev.
Goosey Lucy
Does Jesus Christ Superstar count? I suppose it's more of a Rock Opera than a Musical but there's music, singing, dancing. I've also seen We Will Rock You twice, once with my sister and once with my OH on what would have been Freddie's birthday. Brian and Roger came along and played. Ace! Guest
I saw Barnum with Micheal Crawford years ago in Manchester- I was about 14 and my dad took me, as my mum and sister don't like the theatre. It was great as Michael did all his own stunts, of which there were a few We try and get to the theatre as much as we can (DH and I), as long as we can get good seats but even then you can end up sat near someone who fidgets, coughs all the way thru or keeps kneeing you in the back! I always try and get an aisle seat about half way down in the middle row of the stalls. When we went to the Phil in L'pool to see The Bonzos, we ended up sitting next to Mike McCartney and John Gorman An 'interesting' theatre experience was when we went to see Faustus at The Liverpool Playhouse. When the library is on fire at the end, they used dry ice to fill the theatre with 'smoke' but they overdid it and the whole place was full of dry ice smoke! The Phil have a classic film night every now and again and the film is introduced by an organist playing one of those big wurlitzer type organs (everyone claps along) and the screen rises out of the stage, it's a real experience! Tina C
If anyone goes to Cats, aisle seats are good because the Cats go up and down the aisles a few times so you can stroke them!
Krysia
I LOVE all the musicals and am involved (or was intill I had Ash notime at the minute) in amatuer dramatics. I can;t believe though that no-one has said 'little sho of horrors' yet though either. I also love Gilbert and sullivan as although it can be a bit more difficult to watch it is a better sing than most of the others (esp Rogers and Hammerstein) as it is more technically challenging with all the harmonies. R &H didn;t doo a lot of harmony for the chorus. Not sure of its been mentioned and I can't be bothetred scrolling back but I also love sweet charity! Not bad considering I'm a big Metallica fan
Popcorn
How did I miss this thread!?! I just posted in the chirstmas films thread about musicals. Like many of you I was also bought up on them. Carousel has to be my favourite because my Dad used to sing the songs to me. It makes me cry now when I hear them, espcieally My Little Girl. I love contemporary musicals too, but not as much. When I was growing up I'd have given my right arm to be in something like Oliver or Annie. Such fab feel good films. Shame my OH can't stand them. He says' he just doesn't get how someone can burst into song like it's the most normal thing in the world. Can't beat a bit of escapism can you, and what a lovely thing it would be if we all sang outloud like that!
Guest
I love musicals! I have been involved in productions of Grease, Oh it's a lovely war, Godspell, Joseph and Oliver, as Musical Director. As a singer, I've also done some G+S operettas. My favourite is Pirates of Penzance but the funniest for me is the Mikado. They're all good though. My daughters are completely bowled over by Phantom of the Opera. I like the Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, West Side Story and Oliver! and favourite of all time has to be Les Miserables. DS is in a performance of Little Shop of Horrors on Saturday.
