CockADoodleDoo
yes i love the Fresian Fowl but unfortunatley it is one of the few breeds the man i go to doesnt have
CockADoodleDoo
i was also thinking that an orpington would be too big in an eglu at night with 4 other hens. run space wont be a problem though.
Egluntyne
That is a fabulous picture Snowy! She looks like an ornament.
Richard
Well if you are looking at Friesian Fowl, you also have to consider the Gold Campine. Bella has laid pure white eggs consistently throughout the year. ] She's a lovely looking lady - very classy!
Richard
don't you just love these threads that give us an excuse to look out the pictures of our girls and share them around! I love seeing other people's hens. I am quite surprised that bantams and small breeds do seem to be more popular than the 'heavies' like wot I 'ave. I can feel a poll coming on - which do you prefer, littlies or biggies?
Snowy
I'm afraid I don't need much excuse to post pics of my girls! I don't know if I could choose between banties and bigguns either They are all so gorgeous - I just want an enormous field so's I can have a few of each! Ahem, so here's another: Fizz was a gold duckwing araucana (sadly deceased now), lovely personality and gorgeous blue eggs! (usually laid in plantpots )

Go miniture! mines a mini version, aparently the minitures eggs are the same size as the standard breed anyway. Otherwise yes I think you would be pushed to get a 5 girl in there that large. Going by the size of my three, I would think that three full sized Orps in an Eglu would be enough; you might squeeze four in at a push I suppose. Richard
to join in with the pics here is my new maran hen she is huge she is lovley and very friendly and she has just started crouching so hopefuly some eggs soon ] she is super, a smashing lady; you didn't say what her name is Edit; I've realised, stupid me, its Spark! Liz, my Marans hasn't got round to laying yet - but she's a nice young lady nevertheless and I'm sure she'll get there soon. Liz is the lady with the nose ring - she is behind Daisy, who is a North Holland Blue - don't they look similar? They are actually slightly different colours but the best way to tell them apart is that Daisy has lightly feathered legs and Liz the Marans doesn't. They are both great. Richard
to join in with the pics here is my new maran hen she is lovley and very friendly and she has just started crouching so hopefuly some eggs soon ] my Marans, Liz, flies! She is the smallest of my hens, by quite a long way, and she flies up to the top of the shed and up onto my posts. She also leads the others astray - and when she encourages the Orps to fly over into the veg patch, they get into trouble 'cos she can fly back over the fence, and they can't! Richard
[We have a blue laced Wyandotte and she attracts the most interest from visitors. In the Summer she was lovely and bright (unfortunately she is looking a bit grey and tawdry at the moment and not laying). That's her in the middle when she was a pullet! Aren't they just lovely when they are young?

CockADoodleDoo
because she was too small and was getting verry bulied on a happier note Spark the new maran (The one i posted the pic of) Had her first dust bath with flo today so they obviously like her Spark is about twice the size of the others aswell thats probably why they dont bully her
Snowy
That's a shame, but better than being bullied! Spark is lovely as well - glad she's settled in OK! (she's lovely too )
