jenichill
Hi! I have a really tiny kitchen which needs to be modernised. It hasn't been done up since the house was built in 1979 and all the unit depths are 500mm. All my appliances are 600mm in depth so if you open the cupboard doors they bash into the sides of the appliances! (the previous owner had it set up like this - I need to renovate!) However, if I put in 600mm units the kitchen becomes smaller still. I've looked around my neighbours and their kitchens look sooooo tiny as they have put in the 600mm depth cupboards. I could easily replace the doors on the unit carcasses but wondered if anyone had seen any slimline(in depth) appliances? I really don't want to spend a fortune as I want to buy an Eglu in the New Year! Thanks.
Lesley
hmmmmmm....... slimline in width is not a problem..... slimline in depth for appliances is another matter. I really don't know where you would find out, without visiting stores?
CatsCube
I dont think such a thing exists, the only appliances that are slim in depth are intergrated ones as they need gap at the back for ventilation, so it still wouldnt do what you want. Even width wise slim appliances dont take away much with things like washing machines the difference is 5mm as we had to get a slim line one as out old one was a bout 2mm short of fitting in our new kitchen. The only apliance you can make a real difference on is a dishwasher, as they go down to 45cm (we have one of these too) If you have a fitted kitchen you would have to have everything adapted to make the cuboards shallower anyway, as worktops only come in standard width too (except deeper breakfast bar pieces. Your best bet is to take measurements and pop into a couple of kichten places and let them have a go at working something out for you. chickenlass
A freind of mine has a tiny dishwasher [she lives alone] that sits in the bottom of a cupboard in ther kitchen. Would you like me to ask her what make etc it is.?
Aunty e
I'm pretty sure you can get shallower freestanding cookers, I know you can get mini tumbledryers (I used to sell them), but I'm not sure about anything else. I had until last month a free standing fridge freezer which was only 500mm in depth, but it was five years old. Is it possible for you to put all of your appliances on one wall, and have that one wall only at 600mm? Ikea do kitchen cupboards which are 370mm depth, by the way. I have those along one wall (otherwise my kitchen looks TEENY).
Tessa the Duchess
A couple of years ago I stayed at a 'Citidines' hotel, which is a self catering hotel and you get a teeny weeny kitchen with all mod. cons. I noticed that the fridge and dishwasher were MUCH smaller than normal ones in depth and width. As the Citidines are a chain of French hotels I assume these were European appliances but they were being used in the UK. You could google and see if you can find French appliances in a smaller size, might be expensive to get them shipped though. Good luck with your search. Tessa. Aunty e
How about a twin tub? http:// http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BRAND-NEW-Twin-Tub-Washing-Machine-and-Spin-Dryer_W0QQitemZ160188474840QQihZ006QQcategoryZ71257QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
jenichill
Thank you all so much for being so helpful! I will definately check out the French hotels - that sounds promising! And IKEA are great for the range of kitchen cupboards and sizes so I might go in for a chat with them to see if they can advise me. Maybe not a bad idea to go for all the main appliances down one wall - I hadn't thought of that!
