The Dogmother
A few peopl on here have used these Aliski, but I don't think the feedback was that good.
Egluntyne
I didn't get on very well with them I was impressed at first as the fabric seemed very soft, but after a few washes it started to smell sinister, and everything looked grimy and grey. I abandoned them and reverted to powder I'm afraid.
little chickadee
I havn't tried the soap nuts, but I use the washing ball which Lakeland sells. I don't use it if any of the washing is a bit smelly though, as it doens't mask smells. I will probably get a new one though when it runs out
Lesley
I didn't get on with the soapnuts either - I reverted to Ecover and, ocasionally, Bold. I did actually use Flash floor cleaner the other day - I have purple Bold and some purple Flash and ................. The washing was OK
Eyren
I was thinking it was time to make a fresh effort to go greener, and was pretty sure I'd find a topic like this here Thanks for all the useful info! I've been not overly impressed with some of ecover's range, so I've just ordered a bunch of BioD and Method stuff from Goodness Direct, along with some odds and ends like a Hippo pack and descaler ring for the loo cistern - now feeling very virtuous! Olly
ooh, that's interesting - have not seen the Goodness Direct website before. I like the idea of the descaling ring, I get a lot of limescale here and I don't like using strong limescale removers. I am trying to use up all the 'non-green' products under the sink (why do I have so many different bottles of things, all half-used? ) and replace them with fewer, more ecologically-friendly things. The Dogmother
Hmm, will have to look for the descaling ring - we're in very hard water too. I think that the Method stainless steel cleaner is fab BTW.
Eyren
Thanks - I have a stainless steel sink, hob, cooker hood and splashback, so plenty to keep clean!
Egluntyne
I use a lot of Method Stuff and much prefer it to Ecover in terms of effectiveness. Their washing up liquid is fab. The only thing I haven't rated all that much is their Tub and Tile cleaner. It t smells like toothpaste and is no better for the job than their all purpose type cleaners. Guest
Wiggly Wigglers sell Ecover products in jumbo sized bottles only and operate a refill scheme. With every refillable Ecover bottle they provide a postage paid return label. Rinse and return the bottle and they refill it from their bulk supplies and send it out again. http://www.wigglywigglers.co.uk/shop/foundcategory.lasso?category_id=19&-session=shopper:57C29903076001EB11nsFE4733EC
Lesley
I clean my stainless steel with cold water and Enjo Cloths...... they are far better than any other microfibre cloth I've used - I do nearly all my cleaning with just cold water and Enjo cloths now. I've converted Kate recently........... I did think I might have a 'virtual Enjo party' as they are only sold by party plan.........
Rona
I usually use the Ecover washing up liquid but am trying some Tesco stuff now and it is OK but the nozzle seems to be a bit big so a quick squirt ends up with bubbles everywhere. Toilet cleaner - great, use it all the time Wash tablets - OK but add Vanish to the whites Stain remover - great use that all the time as well Dishwasher tablets - not very impressed Fabric softener - makes me itch Handwash - don't like the smell We have a septic tank so I always try to use products that won't upset it
Guest
I have just changed from Ecover to BioD - I have bought 5l packs of washing up liquid, toilet cleaner and washing liquid. I bought mine from the Natural Collection. I use e-cloths and water everywhere and find them brilliant on stainless steel, much better than any liquid or cream cleaner. I am using a 'green' brass cleaner on DD3's very tarnished French Horn. I'm having to do several sessions as it is so bad, but it is working bit by bit and the environment isn't suffering! I'm told that immersing it in soapy water - or having it in the bath with you - works, but I'm not confident enough to try it. Anyway there's no room!! Egluntyne
I can picture someone playing the instrument in the bath, with huge bubbles coming out if the horn!
Guest
That's part of the problem! There are so many little tubes on the horn that it would be really tricky making sure I'd emptied it all out. It wouldn't be me blowing the bubbles, but DD3 in the orchestra or band.
abwsco
For the laundry and dishwasher I've swapped over to Simply Washing as it works out cheaper than Ecover non bio. I've had great results with the washing powder and only used 1 tablet per load. It's coped fine with makeup mess from my 16 & 17 year olds! My only complaint is that it's slightly scented whereas we prefer unscented powder. The dishwasher powder is also great.

theherd123
We have used the Simply Washing stuff for a while after it was on offer as a 2 for 1 in the Co-op. We have been happy with its results and would use it again
Snowy
That's good to know! I ordered 3 boxes of the bio washing powder (needed for the children's clothes) and 2 boxes of the lemon dishwash tabs. Total spend just under £14! Very good value - especially if it works as well as you say
theherd123
It does say you need 2 tablets in with the clothes wash but TBH we only put 1 in as our clothes dont really get that mucky. You may need to use 2 if the children have been having adventures though Snowy!
Charlottechicken
I'm just bumping this thread up as I have now purchased the Ecover bathroom cleaner in the trigger spray bottle, and am really pleased with it. A little goes a long way and everything sparkles with very little effort I am also using Tesco Naturally fabric conditioner, which is nice as it doesn't stink of perfume
The Dogmother
I use those two too Claire, although I'm not as impressed with the bathroom cleaner as when I use the Ecover toilet cleaner on everything - I just love the smell of it!

Maybe when the trigger bottle is empty I should fill it up with the toilet cleaner, I think the toilet cleaner is cheaper too
