box clever :0)

Recommended Posts

my clever DH has made us some lovely labels for our egg boxes, which we give away to friends/relatives.

We went round our immediate neighbours with boxes of eggs, to wish them all Happy New Year today. One of our neighbours had no idea we had chooks and brought her little boy round to see them, which gave us the opportunity to make some more converts! :D

Dh says thanks ;)

I wonder if there is such a thing as an egg box mould, so we could make our own out of old newspapers etc?

We bought our egg boxes from where we buy our other chicken stuff, they're only 10p each but I'd love to make my own out of recycled paper.

Must do a google :D

They are really cute.

Ask your buyers to return the boxes for re use if they can,or some of mine bring any others they have collected too,& I just peel the Waitrose label off & apply my own

we did, the neighbour with the little boy said she is going to tell some of the other neighbours to keep their egg boxes too, so hopefully we'll be overun, with egg boxes that is not requests for eggs ;)

You OH is very good with his hands (and i dont mean that in a rude way! )

he built you that lovely run aswell.

he is very good at stuff like that, he's just built a fence round his veg patch with some old pallet boards. He's very handy and resourceful :D

I put each neighbour's name on the boxes and when they need more eggs they put their empty boxes on our porch windowledge, I then fill up with eggs and deliver full boxes back to their windowledges, easy peasy. Problem is that the Omlet boxes I got for free are all falling apart now.

These are great labels.

Just a word of warning, which you may well already know; I spent some time ferreting around in the regs and found myself getting in quite a taffle! So, for what its worth, I think that if you are going to sell the eggs you need to be careful about the words 'free range' as they mean something specific in terms of access to greenery. You also may have to have a sell by and eat by date I believe (don't take this as gospel, but if you keep them in a fridge I think the sell by is 21 days after lay and eat by 28 days - but you should check it out for yourself).

But your labels are lovely, and I'm off to see if we have some blank Avery labels in the cellar, sorry stock cupboard!

thanks Richard but we're not selling them, they're just to give away. Our girls are still giving us 4 eggs a day and we often get a build up of eggs but not enough to sell. We just occasionally give them away.

Really lovely labels Poet (and OH - credit where its due)!

Have forwarded a link to this thread to give my OH ideas!

is he quite good at that sort of thing too C?

I am rubbish at anything like that, I just play the piano and write poems but since we got the chooks, there hasn't been much of either going on

They look lovely Poet. 8)

Funnily enough, I spent yesterday evening designing mine! I do sell them, so I call them extra fresh eggs (because they are less than 9 days old) from garden hens. I then put a very short paragraph about them being in a large run with freeranging time, plus fed organic feed supplemented by kitchen s"Ooops, word censored!"s, grass and bugs. Oh, and that they need to be kept in a cool, dark place and eaten before 28 days old. Hopefully I've covered all angles there! And there was just enough room after all that to add a small pic of the girls
