WitchHazel
Just a word of caution. It only stops british farmers from using battery cages. Imported eggs (which are likely to be uswed as the "hidden eggs") can still be from caged/battery hens. There is a big question about whether the manufactuirers who use eggs will buy the more expensive british non-battery eggs, or whether they will switch to cheaper imported battery eggs. It's likely to be similar to what happened with pork some years ago. British farmers were forced to raise welfare standards, and the price of british por went up. Consumers switched to buying imported pork, which doesn't have the same safeguards and so is cheaper. Result, there is 50% less pig production in this country than 10 years ago, and it's dropping. AMO
The hens filmed in the battery farm were in good condition as they were obviously young birds just about point of lay - I wonder what they will look like in 6 weeks time?
