Guest
the chicks on the conveyor belt was just so sad. I want chicks to be born and raised on a farm for eating, do such places exist!? even if you eat organic or free range it is treated in the same way. i know but isn't there anywhere that hatches and rears its own chicks? sorry chelsea but i thought the hacthery was horrible

Joojoo
how cute were the birds in the freedom farms shed? They looked so much happier! Sooo much happier. It was nice to see their toys in there with them. I will stick to Free Range but the freedom farm place was far more acceptable than the others. Yes, they should definitely abolish standard altogether. The freedom food option gives those people who cant afford the full free range an affordable option. That should be the minimum standard for the "budget" option!

Guest
tesco and morrisons said basically the same as asda though
Joojoo
I think Morrisons may be slightly better than Asda. Although I can't afford it I am going to start shopping at Sainsburys. I read a few reports on the net this afternoon about the various supermarkets. There was an awards ceremony last night regarding welfare standards. M&S was top, Waitrose 2nd I think and Sainsburys were 4th! Asda were bottom of the heap
chelsea
if i had a waitrose near me I would shop there, but we dont have any.
Joojoo
Did you notice the list of supermarkets that came up at the bottom with the name of their "high welfare" birds? ASDA WASN'T THERE at all
Guest
chicken will be a treat for us from now on, we're going to find a farm and i'll want to know how the chicks are hatched and how the birds are slaughtered. That water bath on HFW's show just isn't humane and that's how mostg commercial birds are slaughtered.

Bought a freerange chicken from the butcher today. It cost £7.20. There was so much meat on it. Enough for a roast dinner for 3, cold cuts for tomorrow and some put in the freezer for a curry next week.....plus the stock for some soup. Have recorded the programme. Will watch it tomorrow.
