freerange
Last night they all slept together in the (after much indecisiveness on Harry's part - toing & froing trying to decide if she wanted to sleep in 'her' or with her friend Ron who'd already gone to bed with the others. DD1 watched her finally go in the before turning to me & asking 'Can we get 5 more hens to go in the red one now?'
ali-s
DD1 is very wise If you don't it will be an expensive waste of a perfectly good Eglu Go for it

The Dogmother
Just you wait freerange, you'll get more chooks and they'll still all pile into one Eglu!
chocchick
Is it a never ending cycle where you buy more, they go in one eglu, the other is empty so you buy more chickens....

Sheilaz
Is it a never ending cycle where you buy more, they go in one eglu, the other is empty so you buy more chickens.... Yes! That's how I ended up with 6, not 4. Really, I could get a couple more. But I wouldn't like to get carried away... Glad they have settled well, Freerange, it's funny when they all pile in together. Wise daughter!
Mel (& Paul)
Is it a never ending cycle where you buy more, they go in one eglu, the other is empty so you buy more chickens.... Yup, that's how it goes I do that with wine. Open a bottle, then have to finish it, then open another bottle, then have to finish it......... freerange
Well the all in one eglu thing seems to be the way they all want to be, so now I just have to wait until the birds I want are available. I'm torn between some sussex bantams & one I've only recently seen pictures of, but am totally smitten with - shetland bantams.
angelfire
Do you have any links to shetland bantams I would love to see what they look like?
buffie
Descended from Araucana's, these also lay blue/green eggs Just found this out but cannot google it. If they are like my lottie, will be so sweet. BBx

freerange
And lots of stories about their history http://www.araucanas.co.uk/history.html
The Dogmother
They look like there's a lot of araucana in them, I can see the similarity with my Dolly. I have to say that Araucana's aren't the most attractive of hens, but when it's diluted with another breed like mine and Buffie's. they look less odd. They are rather long necked, and i prefer the rounded fluffy shape of my other girls. But Dolly is so lovable and daft
Aunty e
I want a frizzle!!!!!! That little black one was SO cute. Maybe I (or Bob or Penny) could brood some eggs in the summer....
The Dogmother
Don't tempt me Aunty! Rosie was on at me to get some hatching eggs the other day when Layla was broody. I hade to talk it through with her and expalin that I don't really have the space or time to look after them, and the boys would have to be either sold or dispatched. Luckily she understands... I am very tempted, and if circumstances were different, we would have chickies everywhere!
Mel (& Paul)
I was at a claim today and the woman had half a dozen chooks and two geese. She is really worried about bird flu. I started to re-assure her, but she is still concerned and is thinking of getting rid of them. Hmmmm I wonder if that would be considered to be a corporate gift
The Dogmother
Hey, you wouldn't have any worries about the dogs bothering the geese!
