BeckyBoo
I work daft hours so I'm tired every other week, I'm the same in that I want carbohydrates, pasta, potatoes, bread which then make me struggle to keep my eyes open, I find a real pick me up is fresh salsa or chilli salad, bung in loads of fresh coriander and a big squeeze of lime and it really keeps me going! Look after yourself, sounds like you need to! (repeat after me, I must follow my own advice, I must follow my own advice....!) Mrs B
Popcorn
Mrs B said: You must run a bath (even if it's 3 in the afternoon) I have been known to run a bath while ES is at school and YS is at morning Playgroup. Nothing but me, bubbles and Radio 4...the height of decadence and boy do I feel fab afterwards. I agree! Midday baths are also good! Just having that bit of 'me' time is amazing how it makes you feel

Goosey Lucy
OH works away a lot, so much so that lots of my friends look on me as a single mum for a lot of the time. Then again he also believes that if I'm relaxed and chilled out by a mid-morning bath, maybe there'll be some 'afternoon delight' while the boys are at Nursery/school Dusting? A friend once told me that her children learned to write their letters by tracing patterns in the dust. (I'm not quite that bad) Don't get me wrong, I'm not totally slovenly but I've realised there are more important things than keeping a show home. Everyone wears clean clothes, sleep in clean beds and have fresh, home-cooked meals. Yes the bathrooms could do with a thorough (steam)clean and the windows are a bit smeary from fingerprints but a happy mum=happy kids=happy hubby=happy home. Make time for yourself everyday, even if its only reading a few pages from a book or having an uninterupted cuppa. I also have no family nearby and it can get lonely sometimes but that's what friends and the Omlet forum are for. Please look after yourself, you're no good to anyone if you're exhausted. Rhapsody
What is your average carb intake for breakfast and lunch?
fairy&cake
im not sure... i will have a look. Why do you ask hun? Im watching Jamie Olivers tv show now about how to stop eating bad
Rhapsody
Oh I just put my old personal trainer's hat on there for a mo....for instance take an average person (I'm sure you are not average, but bear with me)- they start the day with carbs (toast, breakfast cereal, fruit) then have coffee and a biscuit at 11, then more carbs at lunchtime (sandwich, jacket spud, crisps) and another snack about 3pm (muffin, biscuit, chocolate). Blood sugar is spiking each time they eat the carbs, then dipping making them hungry and tired so they do it again. I used to have great sucess simply getting people to eat more protein! So I was just wondering if any of this is helpful to you.
fairy&cake
oh thats good hun!! I am a veggie, i dont eat eggs. What other foods can i get protein from?
Rhapsody
Off the top of my head -nuts, seeds, dairy, soya, beans, lentils. Gimme an example of your day-time diet (PM if you prefer) and I'll give it a look over for you if you like. I'm not a trained dietician but I studied diet quite alot. The Dogmother
The girl is right too, I was a personal trainer 20 years ago, and if I feel sluggish, I cut out most of the carbs in my diet and eat more protein, fibre and fruit. It works wonders for my energy levels. Unfortunately it means no cake
fairy&cake
thanks gals! I think your right. I do have a thing for bread but i havent bought much recently. I tend to miss breakfast as i am running round like a mad women, although today i had peacan and maple country crisp snack: 2 custard cream buscuits and innocent smoothie. Lunch One and a half houmous and salad wholemeal pitta bread. tea: Seeds of change Carrot and corriander soup and a dinner roll. snack just now, a pack of cheese puffs [i have had a really long day though, normally we have a proper cooked dinner, Seths Jabs - blooming awful! and electricans all day!] I think ill keep a food diary, maybe on here, and see how i feel and weight etc. i think also my problem is , i dont drink enough fluids. The Dogmother
Don't bother with a food diary Laura, you aren't eating enough protein. Make sure that you get more of that, and if you're a snack monster like I am, then keep some seeds and nuts handy for low-carb energy boosts. I keep a lock & lock on my desk full of seeds and nuts, and a bag of bananas too.
fairy&cake
i have no knowledge of food , proteins etc. i am going to have to really look into what foods i need etc. im not really a snacker, but i am a bread lover. but from now omn, im only going to eat wholemeal
Egluntyne
If you are a veggie you need to be eating tofu, and beans and lentils as protein sources. Go easy on the cheese. You don't eat eggs? Hands up all the other Omleteers who don't eat eggs!
