The gaffe is revealed! (now spelt correctly)

Recommended Posts

Right has anyone been near a pets at home recently and seen the charity poster with a boxer dog on it?

They've made a gaff  (we fell about laughing), have written to them but want to see who's first on the forum to spot it, or has anyone already seen it. Will tell you all what it is on friday.:D

Will give some clues if needed!

Also on a serious note have asked them to reconsider fox food being sold in their stores  (thanks KateA for mentioning this :D )

If anyone wants to write to Pets at Home about selling fox food  here's the address:

Epsom Avenue,

Stanley Green Trading Estate,

Handforth,

Cheshire

SK9 3RN

.... but on the flip side of that, won't it mean that the foxes are less hungry and so might not go looking for our chickens? :D

Doh trust a man to say that!:roll:

You woz joking right grd?

Well I guess I have a live and let live attitude. Obviously I wouldn't feed foxes and encourage them to my garden. But if someone chose to do that, they could just as well put out tinned dog or cat food for the foxes. I guess P@H are just offering an alternative..... ? :?

Ok, shall I start running.... ?

I'm willing to be educated here, but I had the same thought as grd. Whilst I am not stupid enough not to realise that P@H are only selling fox food to make money, equally if the people down the road are putting out easily-got food for the hungry foxes, then why would the fox go to all the bother of trying to catch my chickens? Feeding foxes MIGHT be a good thing. I am undecided and feel I don't have enough knowledge to make a judgement but that could be right. OR encouraging foxes anywhere near our gardens might be a very bad idea indeed.

Can we have some more informed discussion on this please?

Well here's the thing and good question. Think of the fox as a sort of wild dog, I do like foxes by the way. This wild dog wasn't too keen on humans and kept it's distance but being 'humans' we like to tame everything and being mucky pups our litter brought them into our urban areas not just the country where tasty hens are roaming and piglets are easy prey.

You now have a situation that foxes being common place aren't just watched and admired they are fed to encourage contact with humans. This is not natural for them to do. I am not thinking of myself here as it's unlikely a rural area would feed foxes but unsuspecting 'city and town' dwellers think if you can buy 'food 'great. I don't agree with this as it's adding to your loss of chickens but equally a fox is entitled to find a 'dinner' and if he can access it he will.

A fox walking onto someones lawn and removing a chicken and chick in front of the owners eyes is not normal behaviour unless the fox isn't scared. Foxes around us keep there distance.

Also foxes can carry worms, so again a foxes mess isn't good to have in your garden.

Love the fox (and hate for it's harm to our pets) but keep it in the wild is my belief

Just my opinion
