asolomio
Were thinking of getting three. We have a green eglu with run, and run extension, so there should be enough room for them. Dad has built an enclosure with bark in it, after looking on the site for inspiration Catherine x
Hen Watch
I have green eglu and a converter (which is the first bit of extension) too. My 4 live happily in that (but they do free range as well). 3 is a good number to get.
Christian
I have an and convertor with 3 hens in and a and standard run with 2 in!! They free range most days though. 3 in an extended run is plenty of room! Good luck picking your new girls!

asolomio
Well the girls have arrived, we decided on four as we couldnt choose between them! They will be free ranging too, so im hoping they have plenty room. They have settled in great! We have one POL red goldline, one POL light sussex, one POL spekeldy, and one slightly older laying amber (not sure of the right breed name yet). They are lovely. Although getting them to bed tonight was fun to say the least, eventually went in with the torch idea i read on here ha! Will take some pics tommorrow, as weather has been wild up here....very strong winds so a bit cold to stay outdoors too long. Love Catherine x

asolomio
What do you think of my choice, obviously being a first time owner, im not 100% sure if these breeds are compatible, do you think they will be ok together? What are the traits of these breeds, they all seem nice birds. The Amberlink had a bit of a peck at me today, but the other three seem pretty docile. Im keeping an eye on the goldline, shes smaller and i hope she isnt bullied too much by the other three.
Snowy
They are a great choice, don't worry! They will all be a very similar size and temperament as all hybrids. They will all have their own personalities though and as a general rule the first to lay will most likely be top chicken. One of mine had a peck at me when I first got them but with hindsight she was young and nervous. Give them space and treats and a few days to settle in and they will really start to come out of their shells! Regarding compatibility, I don't think there are really any chickens that are incompatible (unless there is a massive size difference). They all seem to herd well together
asolomio
Thanks for that... The top chicken i think will be the amberlink. Shes slighty older than the rest...the other three are POL pullets and shes been laying for a little while. I think maybe she was just nervous, but she seemed quite agressive. Im sure she will settle down in time. Im just glad to have a lovely bunch of girls who look gorgeous when they are together, a really pretty mix. asolomio
well all change today! The little goldline has had a stressfull night, and today she was pecked terribly, so we got in touch with the farmer and he offered to replace her for a different hen more able to fend for itself. Which we did this after noon. so we now have a french copper maran instead of the goldline. Names have changed too! We have Isabella, Henrietta, Agatha and Matilda And Isabella laid an egg today!! I was so excited. More updates tommorrow
