dogs and chickens
I read this earlier today and found these really interesting, what do you guys think Chickens are probably the most widespread of all domestic animals. There is approx 29 million chickens in Britain, 271 million in the EU and 400million in the USA. A chicken has a body temperature of 39-39.5 degree C (102-103degree F) A chicken's heart beats at the rate of 280-315 times a minute. The average lifespan of a chicken is 5-7 years, although 20 years is not unknown In 1925, the average chicken laid 100 eggs a year; in 1979, a white leghorn set the record by laying 371 eggs in 365 days. Alekorophobia is the fear of chickens. Incubation starts when the egg reaches a temperature of 30 degree C (86degree F) The largest chicken egg ever recorded was laid by a Black Minorca in 1896. It weighed 340g (12oz), had a circumference of 23cm (9in) and contained 5 yolks - Wow The heaviest chicken on record weighed in at 10.5kg (23lb 3oz) Enjoy
Eyren
I knew about the high body temperature from my undergraduate days (zoology) - all birds have a high body temperature because flying takes a lot of energy. The quintuple-yoker was an eye-opener, though!

Gallina
Fear of chickens is actually Alektorophobia it comes from the Greek "alektor" (cockerel). (I may be pedantic, but I am not alektorophobic.)
Ain't Nobody Here
Interesting facts - thanks for those . Re alek-whotsit, we all knew that - it's in the Omlet English Dictionary .

Gallina
Sorry, I didn't mean to be severe: I just thought that all we alektorophiles ought to get the word alektorophobe right. Typing anything with a baby on your lap is quite a feat. And I have just discovered that officially there is no such word as alektorophile. I think this is outrageous: if there is a fancy word for fearing chickens, there should be one for loving them. I think that we should use it all the time to make sure it gets into the next edition of the dictionary.

I think it deserves to be in the dictionary anyway - it shall be done . edit: just realised we've got alektorophilia in already. No matter, we need alektorophile too seeing as we all are one .
