To our UK cousins - a plea

Recommended Posts

US forum still down- aarrghh :(:x:x

The thing is, we are a small community, & it has taken us quite a while to stimulate the forum into a lively discussion hub. A long hiatus could kill it dead. :(:(

In the US we face unique challenges in raising chickens - extremes of climate that are hard to appreciate when you live in the temperate climate of the UK.

While the UK forum remains a source of friendly advice, :) there are areas of expertise we have garnered, on our little US forum site, that are invaluable.

What am I going to do without doctormom when I need her veterinary experience? How are Annabelle & Missalee coping in Colorado, with the new chicken? How is LindaN doing in her epic battle against the Chicago city chicken-ban ordinance?:shock::shock:

If any of you moderators (especially those looking after our US site) have any pull with Omlet . . .

. . .PLEASE MISSUS, CAN WE HAVE OUR FORUM BACK!:anxious:

Hi guys,

I am really sorry that you are having difficultly reaching the US Forum. The US site hasn't actually been shut down and we have no intension of shutting it down.

Basically, we had to move the hosting to a new server ( as the old server was starting to be unreliable ). I moved the forum very quickly before we lost any data and updated the domain name settings. Normally it would take only a few hours before you would have been able to see the new location.

Fixing the problem if you can't reach the site?

If you are having difficultly reaching http://club.omlet.us/forum then it could be because you computer is remembering the location of the old server. If you are using Windows then you need to 'flush the DNS cache'. You can do this by following the instructions below:

1) Click Start -> Run

2) Then type 'cmd' into the dialog box

This should open a text window on your screen.

3) You can then type 'ipconfig /flushdns'

I hope this helps. But please do not hesitate to email me directly - james@omlet.co.uk if this does not work,

Yours,

James

I managed to get the US forum without problems, no fixing required...........but I can't remember my password  , so I can't log on. I usually alternate between 2 or 3 passwords, so I'll try again later, otherwise I'll have to apply for a new one.

'Tis the problem of relying on the computer to remember stored log in details I guess.

Thanks for the instructions, James. :) Still no joy with the link you provided. :( I shall have to wait for his lordship to get home from work before trying the 'flushing' thing. I'll let you know if it works or not.

(Now, can I hold on forum-less until 7-o-clock? )

OK, to reset cookies etc, go to Tools|Internet Options on your browser, on the General tab, about halfway down there is a section called Browsing History (I'm on IE 7 here, so yours may be slightly different). Click on the Settings button and then check the box saying 'every time I visit the page'. Next hit the Delete button next to it and click to delete Cookies and Temporary internet files.

Hey presto it should work. You may need to restart your machine for it to take effect though.
