KimW
I have just finished the framework for a good sized chicken run at the end of my garden. Feeling really tired now as I had to do it by myself, husband at work, not that he would be of any use! I'm the one that does all the handy work, just call me Super Handy Mum. He cooks better than me though, I hate cooking, so I guess it evens out in the end. Role reversal! Anyway, getting back to the question........ I am going to put the chicken wire on this weekend and wondered if I fix it to the inside of the run or the outside?
Guest
ours is inside, I think it looks neater that way. by the way, I'm very impressed super handy mum, hope you'll post some pics when it's finished
Egluntyne
As long as it is securely fixed....I don't suppose it matters. Whichever you think looks best.
Tweety
We were intending to put ours on the inside when we planned the run, but when the time came we thought it looked better on the outside, so put it there. But as Egluntine says, it doesn't really matter as long as it is put on securely.
Tessa the Duchess
DH is in the process of building our new run, he put the mesh on the inside. I just asked him why, he said "neatness". Tessa
Cazz
i pu mine on the outside, because i also put it over the top and that way if a cat or something climbs on it there's more strength in the mess to stop it caving in, just incase it gives way. MedusA
We put ours on the inside, but when a fox made a good attempt at trying to nibble through it, I put another "layer" on the outside too (just the bottom half). Belt and braces girl, me!
superjules
Outside, that way the chickens can't hurt themselves on it.
KimW
Maybe I should put it on the outside for the roof and the inside for the sides. I am also thinking of putting clear corrugated sheet on the roof later when I can afford to buy it!
CockADoodleDoo
we did it on the inside because if you do it on the outside you can see where you have cut the mesh and i think it looks messy! Sam
Carol U
We're building a run at the moment and I've been pondering this question myself. It certainly looks neater on the inside, but I think it's probably more secure on the outside, as if a fox pushes against it, it would be pushing in on tighter. I looked at some pictures of professionally made ones and the wire seemed to be on the outside. Still cant' make up my mind whether to go for looks or additional safety. I'm not sure whether it would be more secure on the outside. Laborious though it is, I am putting a netting staple every 3 holes on the weldmesh, I am hoping that will make it really secure. What spacing are others using? Tessa
MedusA
I'm sure that would make it very secure, Tessa. Just to clarify, when we made our panels, we stapled the weldmesh on the inside for every panel, but when we added the extra on the outside, we just unrolled the roll from one end to the other for extra security (with a break for the door, obviously).
