One Man Banned
When I was about 7-8 I helped out at Brean Leisure Park through the summer on the little trains there. From 9 years old I worked as a paperboy, started helping out in the shop and was still delivering papers when I was 19 but I was covering the shop for the odd week at a time by then In between my Lloyds Pharmacy job and PC World I did a weeks temping for a company that sold cooking oils to take-aways - not bad filling those big cans with oil but they also took in used oil for recycling, to put into horse feeds and that was gross! - I had to throw my watch away as fat smells stayed in the fabric strap! Has to have been the worst job ever - the congealed fat was steamed out of the tins and the floor was covered in some gloopy mess of fat and soda crystals to break it down. Cleaning out the vans was the worst as it was mid summer too - They'd ran out of rehydration salts they should have provided so it was heavy going. Feeling faint thinking about it! Eyren
Job 1 - only lasted 2 weeks . I was a quality control worker at the side of a conveyor belt in a carrot factory. That wouldn't have been in Chatteris, would it? As far as I know, that's all they grow there My ex worked on a design for an automated carrot-sorting machine, which had a special setting for parsnips! I worked in my stepdad's greengrocery in Malvern, Worcs, when I was in the sixth form, which was OK really, and gave me a good knowledge of (and liking for) fruit and veg. Never expected to be so keen about growing my own, though! As an undergrad I did voluntary work in the natural history section of Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery, which was a lot of fun. I got to write to a musuem in Papua New Guinea about our collection of birds of paradise, and catalogued donated shells that had been collected back in Victorian times and stored in little trays made from newspaper. To be honest, the bits of old newspaper were more interesting than the shells

peanut12
Thankfully for my parents, I am not a firestarter! One of my mates was fitting a sound system in Keith's car and he asked us to transport their merchandise (CDs, posters, T-shirts etc) up to Milton keynes Sanctuary for the start of their Gilted generation tour. We had AAA passes and Keith even came for a chat in my car after. I'm guessing he would rather I didn't say it was fiat panda (oops, slipped out)

Couperman
I started on a paper round aged eleven, (I lied about my age) Then started work as an apprentice at fifteen and was sent home as I wasn't legally allowed to start until I was sixteen (they knew my age) I was also working as a barman at the time in a local working mans club (didn't lie about my age there, they just didn't ask) I did my ONC and HNC on a day release + 3 nights a week basis whilst working full time and working part time as a barman three nights a week. I would have loved to have done the full time University route and would have been sponsored to do so if only they hadn't made us all redundant just before it was my turn! Eight years later............. I did my degree at my own expense whilst working full time which occasionally amounted to 70+ hours a week not including the unpaid day 'off' to go to Uni or the extra studying involved. I don't honestly know how I managed to fit it all in, but I'm glad I did. Oh, yes, I met Cathy at work ( hence the 70+ hours ) and we got married amongst all of that too! Kev. Yorkshire Pudding
From the beginning: Loads of babysitting from 15 onwards. Summer job in a Dorset caravan park cleaning caravans and serving cream teas aged 16 (waiting for my O level results!). Saturday job throughout sixth form, typing, filing and receptionisting (?) for an estate agent. Sandwich degree course with 3 placements, two at agrochemical companies planning and doing field trials (loads of fresh air!) and one at a large Experimental Station researching nematodes. While I did my PhD course I had a very meagre grant to live on, and supplemented this by teaching undergraduates and tutoring children at a local tutoring centre. We also both did the odd bit of casual work, sweeping warehouses and packing peanuts. I still can't look at a pack of airline peanuts.... After qualifying as a teacher I had an eight-week summer job as a secretary for a large hotel chain. Then finally started my teaching job and am still there eleven years later!
