Aaah was that an earthquake!

Recommended Posts

I awoke about 12:58 thinking I was rather thirsty and aught to go get a glass of water when the roof (am in attic room) started to shudder and tiles felt like they were being played about with, bed was shuddering and I jumped out of it running onto the stairway, my brother ran out of the office and said the desk was shaking, thought it was a poltergeist until someone on a forum said his room was shaking too and to put on the news!! Blimey, I couldn't sleep again until 3am, then had to be up for work at 6, of course no-one there felt a thing!

I think I may have felt it all the way down here too

I have a stinking cold,so had a restless night, & at about 1ish I was dozing when I felt a sort of vibration in the bed thought hubby was jerking his leg about.

I did as any wife would do - kicked him & told him to keep still :lol:

Did anyones chickens wake up?

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, heeeeeeeeeeeeee :lol::lol::lol:

Our chickens didn't stir. We went to check on them and all was quiet in the eglu.

We have a railway freight line that runs at the bottom of our garden. I thought a train had come off the line and had hit the house. I was petrified. The bed was shaking so violently. I screamed for Darren in the spare room (I'm taking up too much room in the bed at the moment....so needs must)

A girl at work made me laugh today. Her husband was still up working when the office walls literally shook. He went into her in the bedroom and she's slept though it. In her half sleep she said it must have been the washing machine.

They must have one almighty washing machine....

Has there been an earthquake?

Didn't notice a thing, having said that we are not too far from the railway and the Boulby Flyer freight train often wakes me (mostly in the summer when the window is open, and then I usually feel the rumble)

I think most people who noticed the quake were awake at the time, funny old thing, I shouldn't have missed it really

The one day I go to bed on the same day as I got up............ :D

 I was terrified, it felt just like the Buncefield explosion, for at least 10 secs, but without the sound. So, 1st thought, surely not the depot again, oh no!

2nd thought...but no sound, it's an eathquake...(sis in Leeds thought "Oh it's an earthquake" & went back to sleep)....but, half asleep brain discounted a strong Earthquake in UK, plus haven't felt one before.

3... Now scared, must be son in attic, yet sensation coming from floor, not ceiling. That means whole house is falling down because son walked across his bedroom...

4....But, no one else awake, silence from son's room...what else? Well, it felt like someone tipping the bed from underneath (yes, I tried to recreate the movement, as someone else said, but the bed didn't shake at all.

So, I got out & looked under the bed, convinced there must be someone (? ) there!

5.....OK, can't have been the bed shaking, therefore...bed must have been still, & it was my body shaking. Perhaps I had some kind of fit? Very confused by now, & checking hands for steadiness...

6...Went to sleep & was absolutely relieved to hear the 7am news!:lol:

7...Now, if only I'd done the sensible thing in an emergency, and logged onto the forum.

All four of us slept through it. Apparently it gave everything a good rattle - neighbours were all wandering around in the night looking for the source of the noise.

Next morning the cat was jumpy and the guinea pigs were leaping all over their cage when I went to give them their morning celery stick and cuddle. Normally they are very tame but Wikkit was shouting at the top of his voice and Chewbacca tried to nip me, which is unheard of.

Chickens seem unaffected except that we've had our first egg for weeks!

It seems to have shaken something loose though - our boiler has died and it's FREEEEEZING in here!
