Cookie
I expect my two to do some chores without being paid - that's just part of being a family I think. So they have to tidy their rooms and make their beds each day, and also do things like lay the table, help load the dishwasher and put clean washing away. They are 6 and 3 and very good at all these things now. My 3 year old just loves sorting and putting away washing. Give her a huge pile of socks to sort and pair and she thinks she's in heaven My son, who is 6, gets £1 a week pocket money to spend on whatever he wants, or to save. We'll start the same thing with the 3 year old when she starts school. At the moment he is a bit book mad, and saves up for a Tintin book, which takes him about 6 weeks. The past year or so though, he's spent most of his pocket money on anything to do with Action Man. Cookie. xx
motherhen
I used to get sixpence a week - and wasn't allowed to spend it on sweets You wonder why I'm such a chocoholic now You lucky girl! I got 3d a week, again not allowed to spend it on chocolate, but I did manage to save enough to be able to swap all the 3d coin for a 10shilling note Those were the days Re pocket money - can't remember how much we gave ours at that age, but when they were 13 they got given an allowance to cover everything including all their clothes except school and sports clothes - that seemed to work very well, especially with daughter who would otherwise have bankrupted us at Top Shop. Guest
My 8 year old gets £10 a month which he earns all the usual ways - keeping his room clean, doing his homework, clearing dishes, helping with the chooks. He also gets a 'performance related bonus' straight into his untouchable bank account on production of good school reports.

Amythefoxslayer!
I wish I got that! I got all level 7's in my mock sats but apparently I'm supposed to do well for me, not for money When I was little I used to get 50p a week then £1 a week. When I was older me my brother and sister all started getting as many £'s a month, for the years we were old, so like when I was 13 I got £13 a month. This month I've just started getting an allowance of £10 a week for non essential clothes and going out with my friends, it's much better
The Dogmother
£10 a week That's more than I have in my purse for a week

They do still talk to us, so it can't have blighted our relationship completely
Karen & co.
We're just in the process of starting pocket money, think I should have started sooner as my oldest is 13 , but they do have chores to do anyway, and then extras for a fee at the end of the week, ie mopping the kitchen floor or cleaning the bathroom and sorting socks into pairs. Our oldest has announced that he wants to go on the school skiing trip next year, so have asked him to contribute at least 1/4 of the cost. and he still wants to go! (might ask around perhaps his friends have to pay 1/2!!) Karen x
