No, I am not pregnant .......my 13 year old daughter is getting them as she is growing,& she is pretty self concious about it. I looked at Palmers Cocoa butter lotion, anyone tried it? Guest
I used Palmers on my tummy throughout my first pregnancy, and had no stretch marks by the end of it, although it was less effective for the subsequent pregnancies - that may have more to do with my aging skin tho! motherhen
I suspect it's more the massaging in than the actual contents of the cream that matters. I think it's very hard for teenage girls to grow up nowadays with all the images in the media - just keep supporting her
Cinnamon
Thanks Shona I have just looked online & they do a scar & mark reducing serum AND all their stuff is on special offer in Boots right now. Agreed Jane & I will keep supporting her I think she will feel better if she is doing something proactive to help as well. She doesn't have many, just a couple on her .......er ....chest,the poor thing I think certain skins are prone to them - I certainly didn't manage to avaoid them during my pregnancies
Aunty e
I have stretch marks across my hips and on the sides of my bust from my massive growth spurt when I was ten (never grew after that, I was 5'2" with a 32FF bust at eleven, and I've stayed the same way ever since. damnit.) My mum gave me shea butter to rub in, and they faded to very fine silvery lines I don't even notice. I think a more supportive bra might have helped with the ones on the chest. Lots of zinc and magnesium helps too.

My girl is still in an A cup,but seems to be sprouting fast. Faster than I would like, really I know her bras are fitting well & are good & supportive (for all the support an A cup chest needs!) I am getting some of the Palmers this afternoon,as even if it only helps a little I think it will be good for her mentally to be doing something that may help
Popcorn
Hi Sarah, Aloe Vera is extremeley good for marks and scars on the skin. It's also about what you put in your body as well as on it. You can buy Aloe in juice form to drink while she is growing. You can buy 99% pure aloe cream form most health stores and it really does work. Drinking lots of water will also help. With me being pregnant I have tried everything going for my stretch marks right from day 1, and have found Aloe to be the best for preventing and healing. I still have some very teeny weeny marks though
The Dogmother
I use the palmers cocoa butter every night and it's fab Sarah. There is something I once read about, I think it was called Bio oil, that was proven to reduce the appearance of stretch marks. They are caused when the skin's ability to produce collagen and stretch is out-run by the growing and stretching, it is a ruptur in the supportive tissue. I was enormous when I was preggers (think size 8, 5'1", 8lb 7oz baby),but managed to avoid any stretch marks on my tummy, got them on my boob though when I was feeding Rosie - I was like Pammy Anderson! I thought I had better quickly point out that my 13 year old daughter is not pregnant either! Thanks for the advice everyone. I have got the Plamers scar & mark serum (same as bio oil Clare) & the lotion which smells so nice & is so rich I may be pinching a bit for myself
The Dogmother
She was a planned c section; at about 3 weeks from my due date the obstetrician realised that she was so big that she couldn't turn round and was a 'footling breech', so he decided to do a section 1 week early as he didn't want to risk me going into labour - I was so relieved that I hugged him! Popcorn
I bet. I feel like hugging him too after that story
The Dogmother
I think he was a bit shocked at how big she'd got since he'd last seen me. I must admit that I was getting a bit worried at that stage. Bless her, she looked like John Prescott when she came out!
Popcorn
I hope you don't point this out ot Rosie
The Dogmother
Nope, she'd be mortified. Anyway, when she'd been washed etc, she was sooo pretty and all pink like a piglet.
The_smeeeths
Just don't do what my father did to me. I was 15 and he dragged me to the doctors and demanded that he do something to get rid of the strech marks. I have been more embarrased about that incident than ever the strech marks!!!!! Cinnamon
It's not easy being a woman,is it? Even a miniature little 13 year old one!!! Notice how all the chaps have been VERY quiet on this thread. I thought one at least might get all Tom Conti on us "I love these lines, they show you are a woman" & all that
The Dogmother
I think we can safely depend on them not to make that comment!
