Mrs Frugal
Exciting, isn't it!! My frogs have only just produced frogspawn but we've got LOADS this year! Can't wait for them to emerge and swim away!! You've got the teeny weeny froglets bit to come still Phil. That's the most fun part!
Martin B
teeny weeny froglets Do you mean polliwogs?
Crooked Chicken
Just a thought ............. do the chickens eat the little baby frogs once they start hopping all over the garden?
Mrs Frugal
We kept the hens away from the pond last year but yes, I would imagine they would. The blackbirds do as well so that's why they produce so many tadpoles to cope with natural loss. The little baby frogs hide under things for safety so a lot survive. Crooked Chicken
I would love a pond. We use to have one at my mum and dad's house, and it was great (apart from the smelly cleaning out bit). We had newts, frogs, snails, fish (until the heron got them). I think when the children grow up a bit, we might build one.
Mrs Frugal
Ours is small, Sue, and doesn't have any fish. We did have 10 Sticklebacks but either the heron or the kingfisher took them so we now just have Nigel the Newt, countless water boatmen, lots of frogs and various other water snails etc. I love it as the birds come to have a drink and a bath, dragonflies come to lay eggs and it's just so nice to sit and watch!
