Fur 'n' Feathers
Just a few quickies in prep for Monday. We've bought play sand for the dustbath? (our soil is clay so any spillage is an aid! How much diatom should we add? We've got a terracotta plant bowl for it. Also, how much cider vinegar in the glug? - we've got the horsey type. Also how much garlic in the food? - we won't do this immediately as we think the hens will have enough to adjust to, but when we do.
WitchHazel
For cider vinegar I add 10ml per litre of water. If you add too much it taints the water and they won't drink. Diatom in the dustbath - just a good sprinkling mixed in.
Fur 'n' Feathers
Thanks WitchHazel. That's helpful. Any offers on the garlic powder?
Egluntyne
Garlic powder...a couple of tsps per full grub. If you overdo it they won't eat their pellets.
BarbaraJ
I use 1 tsp garlic in grub and same amount of vinegar in water, not that they drink the water much prefer puddles lol

Ain't Nobody Here
I'm very scientific in my dosage. A good sprinkle of poultry spice, a couple of handfuls of bokashi bran, and a few spoonfuls of garlic powder - all into the large box I keep the pellets in. Oh, and a squirt of ACV in their water (that's if OH remembers ).
