Murdo
Got home late today, and the Managing Director infomed me that we had had a fox in the garden and one of the chooks has had such a fright she's gone completely whitw. Found this hard to believe but had a quick look and she is right - we now have a completelt white hen. Has anyone else had this happen to them ? Nicola H
Murdo don't worry i have heard about this happening many times before it is perfectly normal for a chook to turn white after seeing a fox...............................
motherhen
Don't worry Murdo - I can assure you, from my many years of experience, that this can occur but turning white is a sign the hen will recover completely and will even lay wonderful white eggs for you
motherhen
Sorry Murdo, forgot to add that the extreme shock the hen got from the fox also means that she'll be much less tame than she used to be. In fact you'll have to go through the taming process all over again
Murdo
Presumably chicken is extremely unwell ? Is chicken likely to make it ? Managing Director is suggesting perhaps we should get one more before bird flu causes lockdown on movement of stock. Would veto this (respectfully of course) on space grounds, but fortunately run extension has suddenly arrived today, rather unexpectedly. But we did need contingency AI plan so suppose this is good thing ! Please excuse typos - posting via digital assistant
motherhen
You are so clever Murdo. Yes the chicken is very well physically now all the physical stress has channelled through her feathers (this is what turns them white) but you are correct in surmising she is severely truamatised psychologically. A new little hen will be just the thing to help her recover. Suggest you get it this weekend, if not sooner, before AI poultry travelling is stopped. Is there any chance your delightful OH could meet your urgent need for a new little hen tomorrow. You might have to persuade her (wine, chocolate, other private things that she likes) but I'm sure you are up to the job and your essential little new hen will be with you tomorrow. The Managing Director
Oh what a good idea, it was a real wrench not to bring a Sussex Star home today but I'm sure our you're right and our little newly white girl needs a companion the same colour, maybe I can go for a drive again tomorrow (sorry that was meant to be maybe the fox will visit again tomorrow)
Chicken on a mission
You lot are terrible. My bladder control isn;t what it used to be and was tested to the full by this thread I would definately get another chook sharpish though
The Managing Director
Don't worry Murdo - I can assure you, from my many years of experience, Thank you. It's always useful having you on the forum. So much advice on the Internet can be of dubious value. I don't think we can overstate the importance of having someone on whom we can rely for reliable advice. Managing Director thinks she may be able to spare some time tomorrow to get another hen, but is somewhat behind on strategy and other Management tasks due to rather busy day today with visiting delegates. The Managing Director
Oops. That was actually me (Murdo). Sorry, have stumbled upon the Managing Director's PC which has been left on.
The Managing Director
I think in view of recent excellent job performance in his role a promotion is in order. I have therefore decided to promote the former Underling to a position more suited to his ability and experience. In the light of his he will henceforth fill the roll of Senior Supervisor of Assistants.
motherhen
Congratulations on the promotion Murdo It might be partly due to your admirable concern for the psychological welfare of your growing flock of hens - Well Done

Ihave to go watch some programme starring evil Willow now, just like a day in the garden Buffy fans ? us Wish to point out that this was all security training exercise. The Managing Director today received the worst phishing e-mail I have ever seen. An e-mail from 'ebay' saying 'bid cancelled' took her to a page asking for e-bay user name and pasword. It was badly done b ecause it first went to an AOL home page and redirected to the eventual phishing page. But poor non techie MD didn't realise it was a scam. Could have been expensive if she'd typed her details into a crook's page for them to use. Thus need for computer security training for senior management. This is of course all in line with my responsibility for technical areas, so am sure Board members and key shareholders will endorse my actions and prevent unpleasant disciplinary action. (Pleasant disciplinary action on the other hand... ) Be careful out there folks. Never type your password into anything you got through e-mail. Lesley-Jean
I warned you Murdo, about letting your line manager know to much about the job It causes nothing but trouble for underlings.
AnnieP
I haven't laughed so much for ages. Thanks you guys!
chocchick
our little newly white girl needs a companion the same colour Definately, the whiteness only last so long, then the feathers change back again you will need to buy a permamently white chicken Murdo, shame on you abusing your position! Maybe if you'd got those chocolates flowers, etc. you'd still be promoted. Did you offer to buy a companion hen yourself as the MD is so busy? Louise
What is even weirder Murdo is that the Managing Director has now registered twice Is it the same person or are we about to be even more confused than normal The difference in user name appears to be ... Lesley
Some excellent security training there Murdo but... back to chickens. We have had exactly the same thing happen to us We found the only solution was to get more chickens - straight away! We found the Sussex Star was a very good companion for the white chicken and of course we are following this up with 3 Copper Blacks and some Sapphires ( I must add that we are also expecting 2 ducks, 8 cockerels, pigs.................... see where just 2 chickens in an Eglu can lead to )

Lesley
I don't think so! I'll write a book - it's going to be called "It started with two!"
motherhen
Lesley - I think that is a really good idea - suggest you start keeping a diary to make writing quicker when we all start nagging you for a publication date Like the title, but you could add in brackets, "and an eglu" Rhymes nicely

Murdo
What is even weirder Murdo is that the Managing Director has now registered twice Thank tou most insincerely for pointing that out Louise. I don't think that this new account had previously come to the Managing Director's attention. Since Management tasks take so much of her time she might never have found it without your assistance, and I don't think that prior to a discussion we had last night she realised the implications of someone posting with such a similarly named account. Unfortunately my superior understanding of these matters and the detailed explanation I could provide somehow lead her to conclude that perhaps I had something to do with this account so I suffered some considerable discomfort. There has also been a restructuring of the Company and three new grades have been introduced for me to be demoted to.
