Pookylover
Hi, we have been and collected our battery girls!! My little girl (2 on Tuesdy) can't say chickens so for the time being they are kickens! I have 10 in all and they are wonderful! I am quite surprised at how big they are. I thought they weren't going to be that big but they are quite substantial girls! Also, more feathered than I was expecting too which is lovely. I am still thinking of names for them as yet but will let you know when I decide and will show you all some photos! Whilst I was at the rescue centre there was another couple getting served. The lady was telling me how a fox had had her 4 pure bred chickens so she was getting battery hens. They brought tiny boxes with them and expected to cram in 10 chickens. When they paid she gave over the exact amount (£5). I thought how tight! We brought boxes that looked like we were moving and I paid twice as much for the same amount. BHWT is a charity afterall and she certainly looked like she could afford to be a little generous. Rant over! Anyway, my girls are settling in to their new wooden shed at the moment. I told my husband this morning I am going to make curtains for them and he thinks I am joking! Ha, wait and see!! Will send the pictures also!! Thought about cross stitching them a home sweet home picture too to adorne the wall! Am I mad?!?! poachedegg
Congratulations - we got ours 3 today too (but not ex-batt). I'm fascinated by 3, I would never get anything done with 10!!

Egluntyne
Congratulations! You will get such a lot of pleasure from your ex-batts. It is a joy to see them gaining confidence and exploring. Sounds as if that other owner might have been going into it for the wrong reasons. Like you, I gave quite a bit more than 50p per hen....and it has been worth every penny. Carol U
Well done on getting your kickens! I know they'll give you endless pleasure. I had difficulty naming 2, then 3 more. I'm longing to hear how you think up 10 names at once! Please take lots of pics.

Abbey Road Girl
"Kickens" works for me! A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. I believe you are totally serious about them curtains! They are so lucky to have you for a mum, Clare. Even though you are on the slightly barmy side, it's all to their advantage!
abwsco
Looking forward to seeing pics of them soon. Are they baldy ones? I've got the date for collecting ours now so can't wait.
Pookylover
Will try to post some photos of my girls for you all today! Two of them are in fantastic condition and you really wouldn't think they were battery hens at all. The other 8 do have some feather loss but even the man we got them from was surprised they were so good this time. He said they are normally in a worse state. Just can't believe how big they are! Oh and.... I had an egg from one of them yesterday too!!! I haven't been and checked this morning yet. It was still warm aswell when I collected it! WOW! Made all the upset in the last few weeks so trivial!! Hope you all have a great day! I know I will now!! Clare x
FruitandNutCake
My partner gave me a strange look when I said I was going to put curtains up in the shed - really don't know why - seems a logical thing to do!! He then asked if I was going to put carpet down as well - I said "don't be silly!" I've also insulated and clad the inside of the shed - and was going to choose a nice colour to paint the inside to co-ordinate with the curtains!
