Clarabelle
No regrets, not even in the pouring rain as i'm sitting in the shed watching them forage about. They make me laugh and best of all give me eggs every day without fail,(so far).I too wish I'd got 3 rather than 2 cos now I'm worried that if I introduce a third I'll upset the happy couple! I totally agree and I'm also considering getting another but am worried about introducing her to our existing girls. So far they have been very placid and I don't want to bring out any aggression. Plus we don't really have room in the garden for another coop/eglu (and we don't have the cash for one either!). Why oh why didn't we get three in the first place! BeckyBoo
Just to be a killjoy, the only thing I regret is what they've done to the garden but to be honest the dog is as much to blame, ie: no grass. Means I've got to shell out for turf for the second year running but I still don't regret having them, I wanted chooks for years, it was someone at work getting an Eglu that inspired me. And that's led on to all sorts of thing's, going green, going organic, campaigning for all sorts of things I think are worth campaigning for, I've really jumped on the green band wagon thanks to our lovely chookies! And what they've done for the children in terms of responsibility and learning about life, and sadly death, well, what better way to learn. Never mind our lovely eggs, all the lovely things I now make and sell with our eggs, and our beautiful ex batts, they've been a humble lesson in humanity and makinds unkindness. Im thinking that if i get a third-i might keep her inside the Eglu's run all day while the other 2 freerange in garden. They'll be able to see each other, but cant attack.Does anyone know if this would work??? SLK69
24days in to life with chickens and I couldn't imagine being without them. We got five from BHWT last month - and now No. 1 son is asking for more and dear daughter wants them to have babies! We do spend more time outdoors now, mainly sitting on the step watching chickens. Yes most folk thing we are mad - but who cares. Susie
Trish
Just the one, teaching them that plant pots have slugs underneath! Now I have to go around lifting all the plant pots up for them, if I don't they have discovered that by jumping up and down on the edge of a plant pot you can tip it over and get the slugs for yourself
Cate in NZ
My regrets are that I've had to let my chickens go because of moving . They're such cheeky, inquisitive, adorable creatures that I loved them to bits and the garden just seemed that bit emptier and duller without them running around . kiwichick
If I had bought 3 to start with, Mildred wouldn't be such a noisy so & so when George is doing the business. If my OH had built me a big walk-in run like some of the beauties on this site them my 2 chooks wouldn't behave like terrorists when I confine them to their eglu run. If Omlet sold the Cube here in the US I would have starved the kids, cancelled the utilities and not paid the mortgage so i could have the funds to buy one. Ahhh, regrets ......... Gallina
My only regrets are that the Cube wasn't available when I started out, and that I don't have the skill and money to build my dream run.
MedusA
My only regret is that I didn't do it years ago. I never imagined keeping a few chickens would be so life-changing! I went from 2 to 1 (fox ) to 3 to 5 and awaiting 2 more. My OH will have to put the brakes on me. We will be drowning in eggs soon, but it is most definitely worth it! Cheshire Chooks
Lurked for 18 months before taking the plunge. Positives far outway the negatives but my wife continues to express regret. When let out they destroy our bark walkways. They have trashed the lawn. You can never have a lie in. They never leave you alone when you are digging and get under your feet. There is poo all over the patio. Its not easy eating outside with Ginger and Harriet both on your knee. You need to plan ahead when going away, and then that puts you off going. I need to rely on my wife to sort them out when I am not there..........but they are still the best thing since sliced bread!!!!

Sounds like a good ploy Stevie, but I guess they would all have to be in together at bed time. I think there is probably a lot of stuff about introductions on the forum, I just haven't had a good look for it yet. Might be worth doing a search to see if any has had some pearls of wisdom! My other worry about getting a third was that we don't have an extended run, although our girls free range for an awful lot of the time, so that might not be a problem.
